Bitter Premier League rivals make big striker signings

Both Arsenal and Tottenham have been in an arms race to bolster their starting 11. Now, they will have new strikers leading the line and both squads will be hoping these strikers will be the difference makers both clubs have lacked in the past.

Tottenham have announced they signed Richarlison from Everton for a club record 60 million Euros. The Brazilian striker will immediately play a big role for the Spurs, even though it’s unclear how well he and Harry Kane will mesh. Richarlison is pegged to be the third option on a Spurs attack that features Kane and Heung Min Son, two of the best attackers in the Premier League.

Many pundits are calling this signing an overpay and while that may be true, if Richarlison can be a consistent third option, this singing will pay dividends. Antonio Conte’s Tottenham squad have been very active in this transfer window and they have bolstered their squad in many areas. Whether it will make the difference they hope, however, remains to be seen.

Another big Premier League club have made a big Brazilian signing and this time, it’s Arsenal bringing in Gabriel Jesus. Jesus spent six years at Manchester City and while he was never a key player for them, he was a part of a lot of successful squads. Jesus showed a lot of flashes at City but never fully lived up to his potential. Now, Arsenal will be hoping he can find his form and lead this Arsenal attack.

Now, Jesus isn’t fully confirmed to be transferring but it seems all but official for 45 million Euros. Jesus was spotted on the Arsenal grounds doing a photo shoot and it’s expected that the signing will be confirmed in the coming days. Jesus will have a much bigger role with Arsenal and it’s likely that is the reason for him wanting to move from Manchester City.

When looking at the odds to win the Premier League next year, both Arsenal and Tottenham are expected to compete, but fall short. Everyone can agree that Liverpool and Manchester City are the only real contenders but Arsenal and Tottenham have had very active transfer windows and they should be more competitive next season. Tottenham are at +1600 with the online betting sites and while they are improved, they won’t be a true title team. They still need to make big improvements to their defense if they want to win the Premier League.

Arsenal are at +6600 and that’s pretty good value. They will most likely not win the title but at those odds, it’s worth tossing some beer money on. Gabriel Jesus could come in and make all the difference in this young Arsenal squad and if they all click, who knows? It’s going to be hard to see Arsenal truly compete but at these odds, it’s great value. Overall, two Premier League rivals made big signings that almost mirror each other and if that doesn’t get you excited for the next season, then we don’t know what will.
