Bobby Wagner leaves Seattle Seahawks for the Los Angeles Rams

Bobby wagner signs with Los Angeles Rams

In a surprise move, Bobby Wagner has signed with the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. His contract will run for five years and is worth up to $65 million. He most recently played for the Rams’ divisional rival, the Seattle Seahawks.

This is yet another move that shows the Rams have no regard for cap space and are simply focusing on one year at a time. He will join a star studded defense featuring Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey.

Wagner is one of the NFL’s best players and has made first team all pro four times over the past five seasons. He is still playing at an elite level and the Rams look primed to make another deep playoff run.

The Seahawks surprisingly released Wagner earlier in the month to save money. After trading Russell Wilson to the Broncos, the Seahawks appear to be kicking off a long rebuilding process and Wagner was caught in the crosshairs.

Wagner leaves the Seahawks as their all-time leading tackler with 1,383 tackles throughout his decorated career. He was also the last remaining player on the Seahawks defense who played in their 2013 Super Bowl win over the Broncos.

The Rams were able to beat out the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens for Wagner’s services. He was in high demand amongst competing teams and despite his age, Wagner remains a highly coveted piece.

Now, the Rams have re-tooled their defense and were able to retain most of their key offensive players. After winning the Super Bowl last season, they are not satisfied and will go into this season with their eyes on back to back championships.

The Rams are now +1000 with Bovada to win next year’s Super Bowl. That gives them the fifth highest odds in the league. While they definitely can repeat, it wouldn’t be wise to bet on it as the last team to win back to back championships were the New England Patriots in 2003 and 2004. Also, their odds will almost certainly be higher at certain points during the season.

Regardless, the Rams are set up. Wagner adds even more to a very strong defense and in congruence with their offense, they will be a tough out. This is yet another move in the craziest NFL offseason in recent memory and will provide a lot of intrigue for the upcoming season.
