Bundesliga 2021/22 Matchweek 20 betting picks & top odds

The top two teams in the Bundesliga are on the road this weekend as Bayern Munich visits Hertha BSC and Borussia Dortmund takes on Hoffenheim. We’ve got picks in those two matchups as well as Greuther Furth vs Mainz in our Bundesliga Matchweek 20 best bets.

Greuther Furth vs Mainz

Greuther Furth (1-4-14) has compiled a 1-3-1 record over its last five matches after going 0-0-12 over its previous 12 matches. Improved play in their own zone has been responsible for the recent success; Furth hasn’t allowed a goal in any of its last three home games, beating Union Berlin 1-0 and playing to 0-0 draws against FC Ausburg and VfB Stuttgart. Mainz (8-3-8) has scored one goal or less in four of its last five matches and is 2-0-3 over that stretch.

This feels like a match that is likely to play its way UNDER the posted total of 2.5 goals. Furth has Bundesliga’s worst offense with only 15 goals scored in 19 matches, and Mainz has a strong defense with only 21 goals conceded this season. Greuther Furth likely won’t score, so as long as its strong play on defense of late holds up, this should be a low-scoring game that goes UNDER 2.5 goals.

Hoffenheim vs Borussia Dortmund

Hoffenheim (9-4-6) had its red-hot undefeated streak of 5-2-0 come to an end in Saturday’s 2-1 road loss to Union Berlin. Now Hoffenheim returns home, where the club is 6-1-0 since its last home loss on September 11. Borussia Dortmund (13-1-5) picked up a 5-1 win at home over SC Freiburg last Friday to improve to 3-1-1 since its loss to Bayern Munich in December.

Dortmund came away with a 3-2 win when these two clubs last met in August, but that game was played at Signal Iduna Park. These two clubs have pretty severe home and road splits; Dortmund has a +18 goal differential at home compared to a +2 differential away, and Hoffenheim has a +12 differential at home compared to a -2 differential away. With the change of venue and Hoffenheim’s strong play of yet, this looks like a good spot to make a play on the home underdog.

Hertha BSC vs Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich (15-1-3) bounced back from its 2-1 loss to Borussia Monchengladblach as many expected they would last Saturday, crushing FC Koln 4-0 on the road. Putting aside that strange off-game against Monchengladblach, Bayern has won its last three games by a combined total of 13 to zero. Hertha BSC (6-4-9) enters this game coming off of an underwhelming 0-0 draw on the road against VfL Wolfsburg, falling to 2-4-4 over its last 10 matches.

Bayern won five games in a row after its season-opening draw to Monchengladblach, four games in a row after its loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, and five games in a row after its loss to FC Augsburg. The defending champions always seem to use losses as a chance to re-focus, and their last loss is still too recent of a memory to predict another off-game here. Bayern Munich beat Hertha 5-0 last time around, and we aren’t expecting much different this weekend.
