Bundesliga 2021/22 Matchweek 21 preview, top odds & best bets

The top two teams in the Bundesliga are at home against top-six opponents this weekend as Bayern Munich hosts RB Leipzig on Saturday and Borussia Dortmund hosts Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. We’ll cover those two matches and also share a pick in Saturday’s Arminia Bielefeld vs Borussia Monchengladbach clash in our best bets for Bundesliga Matchweek 21.

Arminia Bielefeld vs Borussia Monchengladbach

Arminia Bielefeld (4-9-7) has climbed out of the relegation zone on the Bundesliga table with its strong play of late, compiling a 3-2-0 record over its last five games after going just 1-7-7 through their first 15 games. Masaya Okugawa has scored a goal in four of the Arminia’s last five games, and the club has outscored its opponents 10-4 over that stretch.

Borussia Monchengladbach (6-4-10) pulled off a stunning upset over Bayern Munich on January 7, but has followed that up with back-to-back 2-1 losses against Union Berlin and Bayer Leverkusen. Those losses can be forgiven considering they came against top four clubs, though overall Monchengladbach is just 1-1-6 over its last eight matches. There’s value here on the OVER 2.5 goals and the safer play of Arminia Bielefeld +0.25 goals, but we’re going to take a stab on Arminia pulling off the outright upset here as big home underdogs.

Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig

Bayern Munich (16-1-3) has bounced back nicely from its loss to Monchengladbach with back-to-back road wins of 4-0 over FC Koln and 4-1 over Hertha. Bayern returns home this Saturday to take on RB Leipzig. RB Leipzig (9-4-7) has shaken off a recent 1-1-4 slump with a 3-0-0 record over its last three matches, though all three of those wins have come against clubs with losing records in Mainz, VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg.

Bayern had no trouble at all in its road game against RB Leipzig earlier this season, coming out of that one with a 4-1 victory. The defending Bundesliga champions should be fired up to have a strong performance at home after losing their last match at Allianz Arena. We’ll take Bayern Munich to win this one by at least two goals and go for the improved payout against the spread on the two-way line.

Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen

Borussia Dortmund (14-1-5) picked up an impressive 3-2 road win over Hoffenheim before the break to improve to 3-0-0 over the club’s last three matches. Now Dortmund returns home where the club has been dominant all year, posting Bundesliga’s best home record at 9-0-1 with 31 goals scored and only 13 goals conceded. Bayer Leverkusen (10-5-5) has been the league’s second best road team however with a 5-3-2 record in 10 games away from home. Leverkusen has won two straight matches over Monchengladbach and FC Augsburg.

The last match between these two clubs resulted in an exciting 4-3 Dortmund win on the road. Borussia Dortmund likely wins this game and looks to be a solid play at -110 on the three-way line, but the clearer pick in this one is the OVER 3.5 goals. These are Bundesliga’s two highest scoring offenses behind Bayern. Each of Dortmund’s last four games have had a total of five or more goals, and seven of the last eight matches in this head-to-head series have produced at least four goals. Look for plenty more scoring action this Sunday.
