Bundesliga 2021/22 Matchweek 23 betting tips & value picks

Bayern Munich will try to bounce back from a stunning loss to VfL Bochum when they take on Greuther Furth this Sunday in Matchweek 23 of the 2021/22 Bundesliga season. That match as well as Friday’s Mainz 05 vs Bayer Leverkusen and Saturday’s VfB Stuttgart vs VfL Bochum clashes are featured in this weekend’s Bundesliga soccer betting picks.

Mainz 05 vs Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen (12-5-5) has opened up a seven-point lead over fourth place RB Leipzig and has climbed to within five points of second place Borussia Dortmund on the Bundesliga table. Leverkusen is red hot with a 4-0-0 record over its last four games since going 0-2-2 over its previous four matches. Moussa Diaby has scored five goals in Leverkusen’s last three matches while the club has scored 14 in total over that stretch.

Mainz 05 (9-4-9) has sat right around the middle of the table all season long and will enter Friday’s matchup with a 2-1-3 record over its last six games. The offense has struggled to produce over this six-game stretch, averaging only 1.17 goals per game. It’s hard to imagine that this Mainz 05 club in its current form will be the one to slow down Bayer Leverkusen.

VfB Stuttgart vs VfL Bochum

VfL Bochum (8-4-10) pulled off a 4-2 upset at home over Bayern Munich last Saturday to improve to 1-2-0 over its last three matches and to 7-3-5 over its last 15 matches since opening the season with a 1-1-5 record. VfB Stuttgart meanwhile is winless since December 11 with a 0-1-6 record since then and is in legitimate danger of relegation with a 4-6-12 record so far in 2021-22.

With all of that said, it’s surprising to see Bochum going off as a +240 underdog here. Yes, Bochum has been awful on the road this season with a 2-1-8 record, but Stuttgart isn’t exactly a world-beater at home with a 3-2-6 record. This feels a lot more like a coin flip than the betting odds would indicate. VfL Bochum is worth a shot on the two-way line as a 0.25-goal underdog paying right around even money.

Bayern Munich vs Greuther Furth

In last weekend’s Bundesliga best bets, we predicted that VfL Bochum might steal a draw or lose by one as a 2-point underdog in a potential letdown spot for Bayern Munich (17-1-4). We couldn’t have anticipated an outright 4-2 win. But despite their dominant 17-win season and +45 goal differential, Bayern does have some stinkers on its resume this season with all four of its losses to Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Augsburg, Borussia Monchengladbach and VfL Bochum all coming to teams on the bottom half of the Bundesliga table.

Bayern is 3-0-0 in its previous three matches coming off of a league loss and has won those games by an average of three goals per game. Now Bundesliga’s top club finds itself facing the league’s worst team, Greuther Furth (3-4-15), at home as a three-point favorite. Furth has been playing better of late with a 3-2-3 record since opening the season with a dismal 0-2-12 mark; but that’s not going to matter on Sunday against an angry Bayern Munich side. Let the blowout commence.
