Having reeled off four straight wins, the Carolina Panthers head to the West Coast this weekend to face the lone undefeated team in the NFC in the San Francisco 49ers.

Carolina’s four-game win streak has come with Cam Newton on the sidelines and head coach Ron Rivera has already confirmed Kyle Allen will get the start in this game. The team has scored at least 34 points in three of their last four games, including their last two.

The 49ers are coming off an ugly 9-0 win over the Washington Redskins where there was a downpour the whole game. San Francisco have the league’s second-ranked defense and top-ranked pass defense. Their run defense ranks seventh and that unit will be tested by Carolina RB Christian McCaffery, who is getting some MVP buzz even though he did not play well in the last game.

The Panthers beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 37-26 in their last game despite achieving only 209 total yards, but they were constantly working with a short field and forced seven turnovers.

Allen is 4-0 as an NFL starter and in the win over Tampa Bay he passed for 227 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He has not put up huge numbers, but he has not been picked off this season and has seven touchdowns.

Some of McCaffery’s MVP hype died a tad after the Bucs win, as he only rushed for 31 yards at a paltry 1.4 yards per carry. Still, for the season he is averaging nearly 4.9 yards per carry and also ranks second on the Panthers in receiving yards. He struggled against Tampa’s top-ranked run defense and faces another strong run D in this game facing San Fran.

The 49ers dealt with terrible weather in their 9-0 win over the Redskins where they gained 283 yards and held Washington to only 154 yards. The San Francisco defense has only allowed 10 points in their last three games.

Jimmy Garoppolo has no touchdowns and two interceptions in his last two games and while not putting up big numbers in the passing game he still ranks ninth in the league in QBR.

San Francisco have the league’s second-ranked rushing offense and while leading rusher (411 yards) Matt Breida only has 71 rushing yards in his last two games, Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman have combined for 476 rushing yards.

This game does not set up well for the Panthers on defense, as they rank seventh against the pass but only 23rd against the run. However, they will be more rested coming off a bye last week.
