Chelsea have announced the acquisition of Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion in an astounding £115 million deal.
Despite Liverpool’s interest in the 21-year-old ballwinner, Caicedo opted to join Chelsea amidst the London club’s ongoing squad overhaul.
This British record signing also marks a significant milestone since Todd Boehly took ownership of Chelsea, with over US$1 billion invested in player signings across three transfer windows.
Caicedo burst onto the scene in the previous campaign, significantly contributing to Brighton’s rise to sixth on the English Premier League table.
While Caicedo registered just one goal and four assists during the EPL season, his role primarily revolves around his defensive prowess.
With 22-year-old Enzo Fernandez also joining this summer, Chelsea – who finished 12th last season – now have the pieces in place for a long-term partnership in the engine room.
Having inaugurated their season with a display of promise – a 1-1 draw against Liverpool last weekend – the Blues are paying +1200 with Bovada to clinch the Premier League title.
Their journey continues this Sunday with a match against West Ham, where Chelsea are -110 favorites to get three points.
