Chelsea vs Newcastle United betting odds, tips and predictions

EPL betting tips

Frank Lampard will be hoping to build on his side’s momentum when Chelsea play host to strugglers Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon in the English Premier League.

Having made a lethargic start to the season, Lampard’s young team has seemingly found its stride and now sits fifth on the table after a thrilling 4-1 win over Southampton right before the October international break.

The red-hot Tammy Abraham added to his impressive goal tally by breaking the deadlock at St Mary’s with a simple finish in the 17th minute, before Mason Mount doubled the advantage for the Blues seven minutes later from close range.

Danny Ings halved the deficit for the hosts at the half-hour mark, only for N’Golo Kante to put the result beyond doubt with a shot that deflected off former Bayern Munich midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side suffered further devastation right at the tail end of the encounter when substitute Michy Batshuayi rounded out a perfect afternoon on the road with Chelsea’s fourth of the day.

Newcastle United registered their biggest win thus far into the season, and arguably Steve Bruce’s biggest triumph of his managerial career, when they beat Manchester United 1-0 on the Sunday preceding the international break.

Bruce, who won three top-flight titles as a Red Devil, was memorably accorded his much awaited win over United on his 400th managerial appearance in the Premier League.

The only goal of the encounter was scored in the 72nd minute by 19-year old midfielder Matty Longstaff, who struck a low finish from outside the box to lift the Magpies to 16th place — a point above the drop zone.

Chelsea and Newcastle are as such separated by six points ahead of this weekend’s encounter.

Chelsea team news

Frank Lampard will be sweating over the fitness of several of his players who sustained injuries during the international break.

France midfielder N’Golo Kante and Denmark defender Andreas Christensen both came back with groin problems, while Mateo Kovacic was also injured during Croatia’s UEFA Euro qualifier against Wales.

Antonio Rudiger, on the other hand, could be in contention to return this weekend, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Achilles), Emerson Palmieri (thigh) and Marco van Ginkel (knee) look set to sit out the match due to injury.

Newcastle United team news

Steve Bruce will be without the services of midfielder Isaac Hayden, who will be serving the second of his three-match ban having received a straight red during the defeat to Leicester City.

Winger Matt Ritchie is in doubt due to an ankle, while defender Florian Lejeune is hoping to shake off a knee knock in time for Saturday’s clash.

Chelsea’s transfer embargo last English summer presented a rare chance for the academy graduates at Cobham Training Centre to prove their worth.

It’s safe to say that Lampard’s fledglings have grabbed the opportunity by the scruff of the neck, none more so than Tammy Abraham.

The 22-year-old has already found the back on the net nine times in all competition this season, having attempted more shots (23) than any other player in the EPL.

The England forward will look to pick up where he left off, as he found the back of the net in the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League right before the international break.

Chelsea vs Newcastle United betting predictions

Newcastle may have registered some shocking wins this season over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, but Chelsea’s performances have been nowhere as disappointing as these two Premier League sides.

With four successive wins in all competitions, the Blues should be able to sweep past Newcastle.
