The 2019 NFL season kicks off in the Windy City with the reigning NFC North champion Chicago Bears hosting the Green Bay Packers. The Packers had won five in a row against the Bears before losing to them late last season on the road.

The Packers have missed the playoffs the last two seasons and come into this season with several new players, mainly to help the defense, and a new head coach in Matt LaFleur. Aaron Rodgers is still the heart and soul of the team as well as the best player, but LaFleur has stated he will establish the ground game as well with the RB duo of Aaron Jones and Jamal Williams. However, in this NFL opener the Packers will be facing a great Chicago defense that led the NFL last season defending the run.

In the two games between these two teams last season the Bears only gave up 69 and 88 rushing yards respectively.

Rodgers has a pretty good WR corps, but it will key that his offensive line protects him especially facing star Khalil Mack, who had 12.5 sacks last season.

Mitchell Trubisky comes into his 3rd season as the starting QB for the Bears and he was pretty good last season. While the team is still led by the defense, they expect Trubisky to make strides this season to improve an offense that only ranked 20th in the league last season in total offense.

Rookie David Montgomery is slated to be the starting Bears RB with Jordan Howard gone. He and the other RB’s have to take pressure off Trubisky, who has not shown he can carry the team with his arm.

The Packers made some significant moves in the off-season signing some players and using their two first round draft picks to select DE Rashan Gray and S Darnell Savage Jr. The pass defense for Green Bay ranked a respectable 13th in the league last season, but they only ranked 23rd defending the run.
