The Los Angeles Rams host the Chicago Bears on Sunday night in an NFC matchup between two teams that really need a win.

Both the Bears and Rams came into this season with a mantra of Super Bowl or bust, but now each team is just fighting to make the NFL playoffs.

The Bears snapped their four-game losing streak in their last game, but the 20-13 win over the depleted Detroit Lions was far from impressive. While the defense was there, the offense still has major issues and only ranks 27th in the NFL with a season average of 18 points per game.

The Rams had won two in a row before losing 17-12 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in their last game. Jared Goff has been up-and-down this season, Todd Gurley is a shadow of his former self after all the knee injuries, and LA’s lead WR Cooper Kupp had no catches in the Pittsburgh loss.

These teams met last season in Chicago, where the Bears beat the Rams 15-6. The Bears have covered the spread in seven of their last nine games facing the Rams.

The Bears were outgained 357 yards to 226 by the Lions but were 2/2 in the red zone and did not commit any turnovers. The Chicago D came up big late when Detroit were driving down the field to try to tie or win the game.

Mitchell Trubisky only passed for 173 yards, but he had three touchdowns and no interceptions and led the Bears to their two key touchdowns in the red zone. He has taken a lot of heat this season, but it does not help that he has an ordinary WR corps and lead rusher David Montgomery is averaging only 3.6 yards per carry. Montgomery has rushed for only 100 in his last two games, failing to pass 3.5 yards per carry in each.

In their loss to the Steelers, the Rams only scored five points in the last three quarters and had four turnovers. Goff accounted for three of the turnovers with two interceptions and a fumble, which was returned for a touchdown. He passed for 243 yards with no touchdowns and while Robert Woods had 98 receiving yards, Kupp did not have a single catch.

Gurley rushed for 73 yards in the Pittsburgh loss, averaging a strong 6.1 yards per carry in his best game since the opening week of the season. Before the last game he had not rushed for over 51 yards in five straight games.

The Bears’ defense has not been as dominant as it was last season, ranking ninth in the league against the run and only 15th against the pass. The Rams rank fifth in the league defending the run and 17th defending the pass.
