Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings betting odds & tips for week 17
Betting Line: Vikings -4
Over/Under: 41 points at 888 Sportsbook
The Bears have already won the NFC East title and if they win this game and also have the L.A. Rams lose in their season finale to the San Francisco 49ers then Chicago will be the #2 NFC seed in the playoffs and get a first round bye.
The Bears are riding a three-game winning streak and in their last three points they have only given up an average of 10 points per game. Chicago does not have the highest scoring offense, but their defense is more than legit ranking a solid fourth in the league.
It is pretty easy for the Vikings, as if they win this game they are in the playoffs. They can lose and still get in, but the Philadelphia Eagles also have to win their last game. Minnesota has won two in a row after they lost two straight.
Their defense ranks third in the league, overall, and in winning their last two games they have only given up a total of 26 points. The key to this game for them on defense is keeping the Bears from racking up the rushing yards and their inability to do that in their first matchup with Chicago cost them.
These teams met easier this season in Chicago where the Bears beat the Vikings 25-20.
- This season the Bears are 11-4 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 8-7 and the Vikings are at 8-6-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 6-9.
The Bears have covered the spread in four of their last five games against the Vikings.
Chicago was at home in their last game in a defensive battle in a 14-9 win over the San Francisco 49ers. For the game, they outgained San Fran (325 yards to 279 yards) and in the second half they shut them out. Their run defense was key holding the 49ers to only 47 yards on the ground.
Bears’ QB Mitchell Trubisky had 246 passing yards in the 49ers’ win tossing a touchdown and had one interception. Jordan Howard rushed for 53 yards and a TD in the game and while he did not have the biggest game in the earlier win over the Vikings as a team Chicago rushed for 148 yards while holding Minnesota to only 22 yards on the ground.
The Bears will be facing a Vikings’ defense that ranks third in the league against the run and 11th against the pass.
Minnesota was on the road in their last game and they also had a solid defensive game in beating the Detroit Lions 27-9. They only gave up 223 yards and they had 340 yards.
Kirk Cousins had 253 passing yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the win over the Lions and Kyle Rudolph and Adam Thielen had over 200 yards between them.
Dalvin Cook led Minnesota with 73 rushing yards and averaged 4.6 yards per carry. He would like to atone for his first game this season against the Bears where he rushed for only 12 yards on nine carries. However, he will be facing a Chicago run defense that ranks second in the NFL against the run
Cousins only has one interception in his last three games, but in the earlier season game against the Bears he had two picks and has to avoid the turnover in this do-or-die game for Minnesota.
Chicago Bears betting trends
- 8-1 ATS in their last nine games
- 6-1 ATS in their last seven games after a win
- Under record of 4-1 in their last five games
Minnesota Vikings betting trends
- 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games facing a team with a winning record
- 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games after a win
- Under record of 4-1 in their last five games
- Under record of 8-3 in their last 11 home games
Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings Prediction
Tough call in this one between a couple of teams that have great defenses. However, at home and with a better passing game going with the Vikings.
This game will be a pretty close one, but Minnesota will still win and cover the spread making the playoffs in the process.
