Christian Eriksen pens three year deal with Manchester United

Christian Eriksen Signs With Manchester United

New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has signed Christian Eriksen on a three year deal to bolster the midfield of his squad. Eriksen had previously played for ten Hag during his time at Ajax and had a lot of success with him. After a couple of tumultuous years, Eriksen has found a new home and it’s a squad in dire need of playmaking midfielders after losing Paul Pogba to Juventus.

One year ago, Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during a Euro 2020 match for Denmark and was unsure whether he could ever play soccer again. However, Eriksen is a fighter and at 30 years old, he didn’t think he was done playing the sport he loves. Half a year after the frightening incident, Eriksen began training again and was ready to return to action for his club at the time, Inter Milan. However, Serie A officials wouldn’t let him play with the heart implant and ultimately, that lead to his release.

After his release in December of last year, Eriksen signed with Brentford FC in the Premier League. He only played there for five months but was a very impactful player and showed that he can still be a valuable player. During the time between his debut for Brenttord and the end of the season, only Kevin De Bruyne and Martin Odegaard created more chances in the Premier League.

With United, he is expected to bring the attacking creativity that has made Eriksen so valuable over the years. United have a good attack but many of their stars, outside of Ronaldo, have struggled to create for themselves. With Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes behind them, they won’t have to create for themselves and should consistently be fed the ball in great positions.

Erik ten Hag’s plan is coming to fruition and he is doing it with players he knows. Both of his big signings thus far in the transfer window have been players he’s coached in the past and he is hot pursuit of another Ajax graduate, Frenkie De Jong. United is going to look a lot different next year, and considering their struggles last season, there is a lot of room for optimism with this new crop of stars.
