Betting Line: Clemson -24.5
Over/Under: 54.5 points at 888 Sportsbook
Punters and NCAA fans have everything they could dream of in this huge match-up between the Clemson Tigers and Pittsburgh Panthers in the 2018 ACC Championship Game.
One thing stands between Clemson and another BCS playoff berth and that is the Pittsburgh Panthers in this ACC title game. However, the Tigers are HUGE betting favorites and with good reason since they are unbeaten and Pitt lost five games. Clemson has the nation’s 3rd ranked offense and they only had two games all season where they did not win by at least 20 points.
Pittsburgh won four straight before losing their season finale. However, they had a solid season and have a great ground game. They narrowly lost to Notre Dame, who are another unbeaten team, but they only won one of their four games facing ranked teams with the lone win coming against, then, 25th ranked Virginia. Overall, the Panthers only rank 69th in the nation on defense, so it is no surprise Clemson is the big-time betting favorite.
These teams did not meet this season and they last faced each other in the 2016 season.
This season Clemson is 12-0 SU with an ATS record of 6-6`and an O/U record of 6-6 and Pittsburgh is 7-5 SU with an ATS record of 7-5 and an O/U record of 5-7.
In their last game of the season Clemson was at home and beat South Carolina 56-35. While they ranked up a whopping 744 total yards and rushed for 351 yards they also gave up 600 yards including 510 passing yards.
Tigers’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence passed for 393 yards in the win over South Carolina and while he did not have an interception he only had one touchdown. Tee Higgin was his main target with 142 receiving yards and Travis Etienne rushed for 150 yards. He rushed for at least 150 yards in five games this season and will face a Pitt run defense that ranks 81st in the nation.
Pittsburgh played better defense down the stretch, as in their last four games they gave up an average of 18 points per game. Still, keeping Clemson that low will be a miracle and there is no way the Panthers can get into a shootout in this game.
In their last game of the season Pittsburgh lost to Miami 24-3The Panthers only had 200 yards in the game and only rushed for 69 yards. Kenny Pickett passed for 130 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions and Qadree Ollison only rushed for 28 yards. Ollison and Darrin Hall combined for 2,069 rushing yards on the season, but both struggled in the last two games. If the Panthers cannot run on Clemson and their 2nd ranked run defense they may be in trouble.
Pickett will face a Tigers’ pass defense that ranks 35th in the nation and gave up over 500 passing yards in their last game. Still, Pickett cannot carry the team with his arm and the Panthers have to run the ball well to have any chance to win this game.
