Colombia vs. England tips & correct score odds – World Cup betting
England has a golden opportunity to advance to the quarter finals of the FIFA World Cup when it takes on Colombia on Tuesday night at Otkrytiye Arena.
Bovada has England as a pretty big betting favorite in this Round of 16 match at +110 with Colombia at +305 and a draw at +220. The Over/Under for this game is set at 2.5 goals.
England lost their last group match, but that may have been a blessing in disguise. They fell to Belgium, who plays a Japan squad that is inferior to Colombia, but if they beat then the Three Lions have an easier road to the finals. With Spain being shocked in the Round of 16 there is not a world-class power in England’s half of the Round of 16 while in the other half there is France and Brazil.
After being upset and losing to Japan 2-1 in their opening match Colombia won their last two matches keeping clean sheets facing Senegal and Poland. However, they have one HUGE concern, as it looks as if their star striker in Bayern Munich’s James Rodriguez will not play because of injury. Because of that there is more pressure on the midfield and defense, which has been great in the last two matches.

England is in the round of 16, but they have not been overly impressive. Sure, they throttle Panama winning 6-1, but the Central American country was one of the weakest in the tournament. In their opening match, they needed a later goal from Harry Kane to beat Tunisia 2-1 and were held scoreless in their last match falling to Belgium 1-0.
Kane leads the race with the Golden Boot with five goals in the tournament leading Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku by one goal. However, he did not play in the loss to Belgium and will be playing a much better defense than the ones of Panama and Tunisia. Kane and Raheem Sterling from Manchester City will lead the attack up front for England and while their midfield and defense have played well the Three Lions have given up a goal in each of their three group matches.
Colombia has had issues up front since Rodriguez was injured and his loss is a big one and Jose Izquierdo will likely take his place. Radamel Falcao has to pick up the slack with the star striker likely on the sidelines to pressure the England defense and the Monaco striker scored in the group win over Poland.
Midfielder Abel Aguilar is also injured for the South American outfit and will miss this match.
The midfield may be pretty evenly matched, but with England using five midfielders they will have their chances on that area of the pitch to set up scoring chances and also push forward facing a in-form Colombian defense.
These teams have met three times with England winning twice, one match ending in a draw, and they faced each other in the 1998 World Cup in the group stage where the Three Lions won 2-0.
The winner of this match faces the winner of the Sweden vs. Switzerland match in the quarterfinals.
Colombia vs. England betting predictions
While Colombia may be without their best player it is tough to call with England since both of their group wins came against inferior opponents.
Still, the Three Lions will play well all over the pitch and while they will give up one goal in their 4th straight World Cup match their attack will come through beating Colombia 2-1 and advancing to the quarterfinals.
