Cooper Kupp Re-Signs With the Los Angeles Rams

The Rams are once again spending their money in a big way and just days after re-signing Aaron Donald to a massive deal, they have paid their best wide receiver, Cooper Kupp. Kupp is coming off of his best season in the NFL and will be receiving a 3 year $80 million extension. It brings his current contract up to a whopping 5 years $110 million.

This will guarantee Kupp stays in Los Angeles off the heels of their Super Bowl victory and these new contracts all but guarantee the Rams will be in contention over the next couple of years. They now have several players with massive contracts on the team and NFL fans are mystified on how the Rams keep circumventing salary cap rules.

Regardless, NFL wide receivers have been getting paid this off season and Kupp was the best of them last year. It was only a matter of time before he got a new contract. Last season, Kupp had 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns. All of those numbers lead the league. He also had a huge Super Bowl performance where he had 8 catches for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns. That game earned him the Super Bowl MVP award.

In an offseason where stud receivers like Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams changed teams, the Rams keeping Kupp is a huge get. He was the best receiver in the league last year and it felt like he was always open. The chemistry he built with Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was unbecoming and the NFL couldn’t figure out how to stop them throughout the year.

The Rams were clearly motivated to bring the same team into the next season and their bevy of new contracts will do just that. Both Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald will be in LA for the next couple seasons and as long as they are there, the Rams should be a threat. In the article on Aaron Donald we looked at the Rams’ futures and found there is some value on betting the Rams to win their division at +125. They will return largely the same team and that team just won a Super Bowl. Now, they will have a happy Cooper Kupp returning. The Rams will once again be a force to be reckoned with and the NFL season cannot come soon enough.
