DeChambeau hits McIlroy with brutal sledge ahead of The Showdown

DeChambeau wins US Open

Bryson DeChambeau may have taken a hefty psychological advantage over Rory McIlroy ahead of The Showdown in Las Vegas this Tuesday.

During a range session on Monday in the lead-up, McIlroy spoke to onlookers about how he would like to square the ledger with DeChambeau “for what he did to me at the US Open”.

The Irishman was referring to his heartbreaking defeat at Pinehurst in June, when he led deep into fourth round but dropped shots late to go down by one stroke.

He had no sympathy from his conqueror, however, as DeChambeau chimed in with: “To be fair, you kinda did it to yourself.”

The exchange comes before the PGA Tour team of McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler take on the LIV Golf duo of DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a mixed-format match at Shadow Creek.

McIlroy has been a vocal opponent of the LIV Golf movement ever since the Saudi-funded breakaway tour was founded in 2021.

Despite DeChambeau’s win on the range, golf betting sites have him and Koepka slated as +137 outsiders for The Showdown.

McIlroy and Scheffler are paying -175.44 for the win at Bovada.
