Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno Betting Preview

Deiveson Figueiredo defeated Alex Perez with a guillotine choke just two minutes into the first round of the main event at UFC 255 in November. Earlier on that card, Brandon Moreno earned a first-round knockout victory over Brandon Royval. Just 21 days later, Figueiredo and Moreno are set to clash in the main event of UFC 256 in Las Vegas for the UFC Flyweight Championship.

This Saturday’s fight will mark the sixth time that Deiveson Figueiredo (20-1-0) has entered the Octagon in less than 17 months. Over that stretch he is a perfect 5-0; his last four wins have come by way of early stoppage with three first-round submission wins and one second-round technical knockout. His two wins over flyweight veteran Joseph Benavidez and his most recent win over Alex Perez have cemented his status as a rising superstar in the promotion.

Brandon Moreno (18-5-1) was 0-2-1 in his previous three UFC fights before stringing together three straight wins over the last 12 months. Moreno picked up decision wins over Kai Kara-France and Jussier Formiga before earning his impressive first-round knockout win over Brandon Royval at UFC 255. His 4-0-1 professional record over his last five fights has earned him this UFC Flyweight title shot.

This has the potential to be a great fight. Figueiredo is such a powerful, athletic, and opportunistic fighter that it’s hard to go against him. But he’ll have a tough opponent in Moreno who at just 27-years-old is still improving with every fight and has never been stopped in a professional fight with all five of his previous professional losses coming by decision.

If Figueiredo is unable to get one of the quick finishes he has become accustomed to in recent months, Moreno is the type of fighter that could take over this fight in the later rounds and grind out a decision victory. The betting value is probably on the underdog to do just that given that Figueiredo’s odds are a bit inflated due to his popularity. But inflated odds or not, the more likely outcome is that Moreno’s sturdy chin cracks under the overwhelming power that Figueiredo possesses, and that the defending champion eventually finds a shot or a submission maneuver to put this one away and to retain.
