Drake ends string of sports betting losses with huge UFC win

Drake wins big on Adesanya UFC fight

Drake, the rapper and music producer, has consistently demonstrated a fondness for sports betting and has copped some notable losses in recent times. However, the Canadian star’s US$1 million wager on Israel Adesanya winning the UFC 276 main event paid dividends.

Adesanya took on Jared Cannonier for the UFC Middleweight Championship last Saturday, and the Nigerian-born New Zealander won by unanimous decision after landing 116 significant strikes. Adesanya received a call from Drake the day before the contest, informing him that he had placed a bet on him to win in the UFC 276 battle.

When it comes to picking MMA results, Drake has had little or no luck at it. In March, he lost $275,000 betting on Jorge Masvidal to win over Colby Covington. Also, he lost a total of $550,000 betting that Justin Gaethje would win over Charles Oliveira in May.

Drake chose the frontrunner this time around rather than the underdog. Before the fight on Saturday, Adesanya had successfully defended his title on five consecutive occasions. Cannonier, in contrast, was contesting the championship for the very first time.

As part of his efforts to maintain his championship, Adesanya competed twice against Robert Whittaker. Cannonier entered the match with a record of 5-1; the lone loss on his slate came at the hands of Whittaker.

Drake did not disclose where he placed his wager. DraftKings had Adesanya pegged at -450 on the moneyline, which equates to a return of $222,000 on a $1 million wager.
