Newcastle United fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion in the EPL on Saturday afternoon at St James’ Park.
The only goal of the match was scored in the 35th minute through former England international Danny Welbeck, who struck for the fifth time this season.
Victory propelled Brighton to fifth on the table with 15 points, while defeat leaves the Magpies eighth in the standings with 12 points.
Speaking after the loss, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe couldn’t understand how his side failed to make an impact.
“I’m really frustrated because I thought our general performance today for 65 minutes was really good,” said the Newcastle boss.
“I think that’s the best we’ve looked, the most dominant we’ve been in a game and lo and behold, we have plenty of chances, don’t take them and concede a poor goal from our perspective from Brighton’s first real meaningful attack.”
“Of course, we only have ourselves to blame for that. We need to look at that and analyse that, but the majority of the performance, especially in the early stages of the game, was very, very strong.”
Newcastle travel to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League next Sunday, with soccer betting sites favouring Chelsea at -120.48 to beat the Magpies (+295).
Meanwhile, Brighton will play host to Wolverhampton Wanderers next Saturday in the EPL, with Nags.bet backing the hosts (-172.41) to beat Wolves (+455).
