The EPL made its triumphant return last weekend and it was a breath of fresh air for soccer fans. Everything kind of went down as expected and while Liverpool and Manchester United faltered, that’s how day one can go. Manchester City kicked off their title defence with a great performance and once again, they are the team to beat. However, it’s a long season and her are our best picks for the second slate of Premier League games.

Arsenal vs Leicester City

Last weekend, Arsenal kicked off their season on the right foot and dominated Crystal Palace in route to a 2-0 win. Their new striker, Gabriel Jesus, did not end up on the scoresheet but his impact was immense. He constantly put pressure on the Palace defence and he had many opportunities to put one past the Palace keeper. Jesus always had a lot of talent and this new system at Arsenal will feed him a lot of chances. Against Leicester, who have a porous defence, those chances should come to fruition and Jesus should grab his first Arsenal goal. At +112 with Bovada, it is a good value bet as he should have plenty of opportunities.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Newcastle United

Newcastle looked great in their first game of the season and ended up with a 2-0 win against the newly promoted Nottingham Forest. Newcastle completely revamped their team under their new ownership, and they should show drastic improvement on recent seasons. Yes, Forest isn’t the greatest of competition, but it was still good for Newcastle to grab the win. Brighton will be stronger competition, but they still have flaws in their defence and the pace in Newcastle’s attack should take advantage of that.

Brighton is coming off of an opening day win over Manchester United. Of course, the story was more about United’s shortcomings but it was still a great performance by Brighton. Last year, Brighton was very inconsistent and after big wins, they would have a letdown performance. Considering Brighton didn’t change up their team too much from last year, we believe they will be a similar team this season. Although they looked good last week, Brighton cannot be trusted, and an improved Newcastle team should come in and take care of business.

Manchester City vs Bournemouth

Last weekend, Manchester City looked unbeatable. They have returned their Premier League Champion squad and added a prolific goal scorer in Erling Haaland to the roster. Once again, Kevin De Bruyne was the best player on the field, and he looks like he is set up for another season of terrorising defenders. While he is more of a creator, Manchester City should have a ton of chances against a hapless Bournemouth squad and De Bruyne will be up the pitch. He had a bunch of close calls last weekend against West Ham, and he should make the most of one of those chances this weekend. City have the chance to score over five goals in this game and De Bruyne should be a big part of that. Take De Bruyne to score and watch one of the best players of this generation dominate.

Wolverhampton vs Fulham

Fulham was the surprise of the weekend on Matchweek 2 as they were able to draw Liverpool at home. They played very well and looked motivated to prove they belong in the Premier League. While they looked strong, the Premier League is a grind, and you need to perform each and every weekend if you want to stay in the Prem. Any team is capable of playing well one weekend, but Fulham will have to prove they can play consistently. At this point, we do not believe they can, and we think Wolves will take care of them.

Wolves are coming off of a disappointing result where they lost to Leeds United despite dominating the first half. Throughout the game, Wolves were the better team, and they will feel unlucky to not get a result. Expect that to be used as motivation for this upcoming game and they should take out that frustration on the newly promoted Fulham side. At home, Wolves were substantially better last season and that should be the case this season as well. It won’t be easy, but Wolves are a level above Fulham and they should prove that in this fixture.
