The English Premier League returns for one more slate of games before a month and a half break for the World Cup. Here are our free EPL betting picks for Matchweek 16.
Manchester City vs Brentford
While Erling Haaland steals all the headlines for this Manchester City side, it is still Kevin De Bruyne who is the key player. He truly is one of the best midfielders of all time and his passing is unmatched by anyone else in the world. Through 13 Premier League games, De Bruyne has garnered nine assists and he is consistently setting up his teammates with golden opportunities. City have been dominant at home and have scored 15 goals in their last four Premier League home games. Against Brentford, City should be on the attack for most of the game and that will mean De Bruyne is orchestrating the flow of the game. We expect De Bruyne to be heavily involved and -115 is a great bet on the leading assister in the EPL to add to his tally.
Kevin De Bruyne anytime assist
Tottenham Hotspur vs Leeds United
Tottenham have struggled in recent Premier League games but this is a great get-right spot for Spurs. Their attack has been relatively stagnant in recent fixtures but that shouldn’t be a problem here. Leeds have conceded multiple goals in three of their last four matches and Tottenham’s star studded attack should take advantage of that. On the other side of the ball, Leeds have actually been very solid in recent games and they have scored eight goals in their last three EPL games. At this point in the season, both of these teams have a better attack than defense and that will create a fun atmosphere for this game. Take the over and watch a match that should feature plenty of goals.
Over 3 total goals
West Ham United vs Leicester City
One of the underrated storylines of the past month in the Premier League has been Leicester City’s resurgence. After a miserable start that saw Leicester at bottom of the table, the Foxes have won three of their last four matches. Even more surprising is their defensive turnaround as a once porous defense has only conceded three goals in their last seven matches. It is quite remarkable what Leicester have done and they should keep it up here. West Ham have only scored 12 times in 14 Premier League matches and they cannot be trusted offensively. While West Ham are strong defensively, we like Leicester to keep this game close and come away with at least a draw, continuing their mid-season renaissance.
Leicester City +0.5
Liverpool vs Southampton
Well, Mo Salah is back. After a slow start to this season, Salah has scored in four goals across all competitions and now has 14 goals across 20 games. While Liverpool are still struggling, Salah is carrying them offensively and is playing at an elite level. Now, Liverpool have a home matchup against a beatable Southampton side and Salah once again should dominate. Southampton have conceded 24 goals through 14 Premier League matches and Liverpool should have an easy time creating chances on them. When that happens, Salah usually finds the back of the net and these odds are far too long considering his recent form.
Mohamed Salah anytime goalscorer
Newcastle United vs Chelsea
This is likely the game of the weekend as Newcastle have quietly been an elite team in the Premier League. The Magpies sit in third place with 27 points through 14 games and have won six of their last seven contests. Chelsea, on the other hand, sit in seventh place with 21 points through 13 matches and haven’t won in four straight EPL battles. These teams are trending in the opposite directions and Newcastle have a great chance to showcase their improvement on their home pitch. And we think they will. If you ignore the names of these clubs, Newcastle is the obvious bet given their recent form and they should dispatch of a faltering Chelsea team in this spot. Take Newcastle to win a huge game at home and continue their impressive run heading into this extended World Cup break.
Newcastle United to win
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Arsenal
Arsenal are top of the table and that is largely due to their defensive prowess. The Gunners have conceded 11 goals in 13 matches and recently, they have kept three clean sheets in their last four games. That should happen again here. Wolves have a bad attack and haven’t been able to consistently score. Against the league’s best defense, that problem will be aggravated and we think Arsenal will keep yet another clean sheet. This bet comes down to Arsenal’s attack and while they are capable of lighting it up, Arsenal haven’t scored more than one goal in their last three away EPL matches. Take the under in a slow game that Arsenal should prevail in.
Under 2.5 total goals
Fulham vs Manchester United
This is set up to be a fun game. Fulham, the hosts, sit in ninth place with 19 points through 14 matches. On the other side of the pitch, Manchester United are in fifth place with 23 points through 13 games. That all being said, United should coast to a win. There is a clear talent disparity in this game and United have multiple players worth more than Fulham’s whole roster. United haven’t been great away from Old Trafford in recent fixtures but this is a great spot for them. Take United to win the game as they should enter the extended break with a big win.
Manchester United to win
