EPL 2022/2023 Matchweek 4 Betting Picks: Sunday, August 28

This article will go over our best English Premier League picks for Sunday’s games of Matchweek Four. Yesterday, we went over Saturday’s slates which will feature seven games. Sunday has three games scheduled, and we have a pick for each matchup. Let’s get into it.

Newcastle United at Wolves

Newcastle have been a very solid team to this point in the Premier League season and they look poised for a top half finish. They made a lot of changes in the Summer Transfer Window and it looks like those additions are paying dividends. Newcastle is coming off of a hard-fought draw against Manchester City where Newcastle actually looked like the better team. Guys like Allan Saint Maximin and Callum Wilson give the Magpies the creative attacking options that they have lacked in previous years. Newcastle also went to great lengths to improve their midfield and Bruno Guimares is a rising star. Simply put, Newcastle is an ascending team in the Premier League and while Wolves will put up a fight, we like Newcastle to come away with a win.

Wolves have yet to impress in this young Premier League season. They have two losses and a draw from their first three games and they haven’t looked particularly impressive. They are the favorites in this game due to playing at home but other than that, there is no reason that their odds should be where they are. Newcastle have shown more and have played better in recent games. While Wolves were the better team last year, this is a new season and Wolves haven’t given their fans any reason to be confident. We expect that to continue and Newcastle is criminally undervalued in this fixture.

West Ham United at Aston Villa FC

West Ham is the one team we cannot quit. After an impressive seventh place finish last year, West Ham have yet to gain a point in this Premier League season and they have played very poorly. They didn’t lose anyone huge in the Transfer Window, so it is quite perplexing to see them struggle. West Ham haven’t even scored a goal but that should change this weekend. Aston Villa have struggled defensively and they conceded three goals to a mediocre Crystal Palace side last weekend. We expect West Ham to end their goalscoring bugaboo and give Aston Villa trouble in this matchup. They haven’t played well up to this point, but West Ham should bounce back eventually. This is a great spot for them to get their first points of the season.

Aston Villa was a trendy pick to finish in the top half of the Premier League this season. Behind coach Steven Gerrard and creative playmakers like Phillipe Coutinho, Villa looked set up for a strong season. Unfortunately for them, it hasn’t worked and Villa has played below their ability. They have already lost to Bournemouth and Crystal Palace this season and those are two teams who don’t possess the talent West Ham has. Sure, West Ham have yet to play well with all their talent but we expect them to figure it out. Take the discount on West Ham while you can and watch the Hammers go into Villa Park and steal some points.

Tottenham Hotspur at Nottingham Forest

Tottenham had the third shortest odds to win the Premier League before the season kicked off and while that may have been a bit lofty, their attack looks as expected. Of course, that attack is led by Harry Kane as he is one of the best strikers of this generation. This season, he is continuing his dominance and he has been prolific in front of goal. Forest have played better than anyone expected but Tottenham will be an extreme challenge for the newly promoted side. Containing Harry Kane is something very few teams can pull off and Forest definitely do not have the defenders to do so. Also, Harry Kane takes the penalties for Spurs so there is added value if Tottenham wins a penalty. At -120, Harry Kane is a great bet to score as he is always a threat, especially against a lower table side like Nottingham Forest.
