After an eventful weekend that saw 29 goals scored and two managers sacked, the English Premier League returns with an interesting slate of midweek catch-up games. We have four matches scheduled for Tuesday night and two more on Wednesday, with the highlight fixture seeing Chelsea and Liverpool face off after a difficult weekend for both sides.
Bournemouth vs Brighton & Hove Albion
Tuesday, April 4 – 7:45pm BST
Bournemouth earned all three points against Fulham on Saturday, thanks to Dominic Solanke’s 79th-minute winner. The Cherries’ next home game is against Brighton on Tuesday night, and a win could propel them up to 13th place in the table. Meanwhile, Brighton are coming off a 3-3 draw with Brentford on Saturday afternoon, in which they fell behind three times before Alexis Mac Allister’s 90th-minute penalty earned both teams a point. The last time these sides met, the Seagulls dominated every aspect of the game and won 1-0, but with Bournemouth coming off a strong home performance just three days ago, they will be up for a fight.
Under 2.5 goals
Leeds United vs Nottingham Forest
Tuesday, April 4 – 7:45pm BST
Leeds, who were completely outplayed by Arsenal and lost 4-1 at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon, will only have a few days to lick their wounds before hosting Nottingham Forest at Elland Road. Forest are coming off a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, in which they led for most of the game before Daniel Podence equalised in the 83rd minute to secure a point for Wolves. Leeds currently sit above the relegation zone on goal difference, while Forest are only one point above the drop zone; a win for either of these teams could move them closer to safety.
Both teams to score/Over 2.5 goals
Leicester City vs Aston Villa
Tuesday, April 4 – 7:45pm BST
After their five-match winless streak was extended to six on Saturday, the Leicester hierarchy and Brendan Rodgers mutually agreed that they should take a different path, with Rodgers stepping down as manager of the Foxes. Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell will serve in partnership as interim head coaches against Midlands rivals Aston Villa at King Power Stadium. Villa are coming off a 2-0 win over Chelsea which extended their unbeaten streak to five games with four clean sheets. Leicester will be desperate for a result after earning just one point in their last five games.
Over 2.5 goals
Chelsea vs Liverpool
Tuesday, April 4 – 8pm BST
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly sacked Graham Potter after the Blues were defeated at home by Aston Villa on Saturday. With Bruno Saltor taking over as interim manager, they face a tough test against mid-table rivals Liverpool, who are only three points ahead of them in eighth place. Liverpool had their own problems over the weekend, as they were defeated 4-1 by Manchester City after the scores were tied at 1-1 at halftime. Can the Blues use the so-called ‘new manager bounce’ to get a much-needed home win, or will the Reds end their two-game losing streak and inflict more pain on the north London club?
Both teams to score/Over 2.5 goals
Manchester United vs Brentford
Wednesday, April 5 – 8pm BST
The first of two games on Wednesday night will feature Manchester United and Brentford, with the former coming off a disappointing 0-2 loss to Newcastle and the latter drawing 3-3 with Brighton in a back-and-forth affair. The Red Devils’ top-four spot is now in jeopardy, with Tottenham only one point behind them before their match against Everton, so a win over Brentford is essential. Brentford are unbeaten in three games, and if they beat United, they will be only four points outside the top four.
Manchester United/Over 1.5 goals
West Ham United vs Newcastle United
Wednesday, April 5 – 8pm BST
Both West Ham and Newcastle are coming off victories, yet they are fighting completely different battles. While the Irons are attempting to avoid relegation, the Magpies are attempting to maintain their top-four position. With both teams needing to win to reach their end-of-season targets, we could be in for a thrilling game at London Stadium. The last two meetings between West Ham and Newcastle have ended in 1-1 draws, and we expect them to make it three from three on Wednesday night.
