F1 Belgian Grand Prix 2024 race preview & free betting picks

Belgian Grand Prix F1 preview - July 28, 2024

The thrilling F1 World Championship continues this weekend as we head to the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix.

Practice 1 kicks off at 1:30pm local time on Friday, July 26, with the main race scheduled for 3pm on Sunday, July 28.

Last weekend in Hungary, Australian driver Oscar Piastri secured his first F1 victory, finishing ahead of McLaren teammate Lando Norris. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton finished third, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen rounded out the top five.

Despite the result, Verstappen still holds a comfortable lead at the top of the drivers’ standings with 265 points. Norris (189) is slowly catching the Red Bull star, ahead of Ferrari pair Leclerc (162) and Carlos Sainz (154).

2024 Belgian Grand Prix odds

For the first time this season, Verstappen — now winless in three races — is not the favourite. The odds show how competitive Norris has been this season, while his teammate also has shortened odds after his victory in Hungary.

Mercedes have been comfortably quicker than Ferrari over the past five races, while Sergio Perez continues to struggle in the Red Bull. The final two points finishes are up for grabs as the mid-table teams battle it out in the constructors’ championship.

  • Lando Norris (McLaren) – +125
  • Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – +225
  • Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – +450
  • George Russell (Mercedes) – +1200
  • Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) – +1200
  • Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) – +2500
  • Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) – +4000
  • Sergio Perez (Red Bull) – +4000
  • Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) – +25000
  • Nico Hulkenburg (Haas) – +50000

F1 Belgian Grand Prix 2024 predictions

Incredibly unlucky not to win in Hungary as a result of team orders, Lando Norris was much quicker than rivals Piastri and Verstappen through the latter parts of the race. After eight podiums and a win, the 24-year-old is the race favourite for the first time in his F1 career. The McLaren showed in Hungary that it can handle changing weather conditions well, and with rain scheduled throughout the weekend, Norris looks a good play to secure his second win of the season at +125 with top betting sites.

In the midst of a mid-season resurgence, Lewis Hamilton has now secured three podiums in his last four races. Since the Canadian GP, Mercedes have been consistently quicker than Ferrari, winning in both Austria and the UK. A four-time winner at the circuit, back Hamilton to continue his excellent form with a podium finish at +175 with leading F1 bookmakers.

Arguably the most consistent of the mid-table pack, RB’s Yuki Tsunoda is making his claim for a seat at Red Bull next season. The Japanese driver has scored points in seven of the 13 races this year and sits 12th in the standings. He has reached Q3 in each of his last two races, and after scoring points here in 2023, back Tsunoda to do so again at +350 with top online bookies.
