FIBA Basketball World Cup Day 5 odds, tips and predictions
There are several big games on the schedule for Day 5 of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
A number of teams have already secured a spot in the next round, while a few more will have joined them by the time Wednesday’s games roll around.
Here is the schedule and the latest FIBA World Cup betting lines for Day 5 on September 4:
Philippines (-2.5) vs Angola O/U 155.5
Poland (-16.5) vs Ivory Coast O/U 145.5
Tunisia vs. Puerto Rico (-5.5) O/U 147.5
Nigeria (-14.5) vs South Korea O/U 164.5
Serbia (-13.5) vs Italy O/U 160.5
China (-7) vs Venezuela O/U 145.5
Argentina (-7.5) vs Russia 164.5
Iran vs Spain (-25.5) O/U 148.5
Argentina, Italy, Poland, Russia, Serbia and Spain are already assured a berth into the next round. However, the winner of the group has the advantage in the next round of games, so there is still a lot to play for.
In day 5 of World Cup action there is only one very close game and one that, really, does not mean much with the Philippines as the slight betting favorites over Angola. The big games for the day are Serbia the big favorite facing Italy, host China 7-point favorites over Venezuela, and Argentina and their veteran squad up against Russia.
Serbia (-13.5) vs Italy O/U 160.5
Both Serbia and Italy have advanced and the winner of this game will win their group.
Serbia throttled Angola in their first game and then had another blowout in their last game beating Philippines 126-67. They were up 27 points at the half and Nemanja Bjelica led seven players for the team that scored in double figures.
Italy beat Angola 92-61 on Monday to ensure them a spot in the next round and they had a decent shooting game but clamped down on defense. Their defense will be tested by a Serb team with a killer frontcourt that has scored at least 105 points in each of their first two World Cup games.
The Italians lack of size will hurt them in this game, but they have the skill players with the likes of Marco Belinelli and Danilo Gallinari and they will, at least cover the spread in this game.
China (-7) vs Venezuela O/U 145.5
Host China is in a good spot, as if they win this game they will advance unless Poland, who beat them in their last game, is shocked losing to Ivory Coast. China will have the major height advantage in this group game and it also helps that they have the home crowd behind them. Jianlian Yi has totaled 43 points in the first two games and leads a China team that has the advantage in the frontcourt as well as a stronger defesnvie team than Venezuela.
Venezuela lost to Poland in their World Cup opener by 11 points while China only lost ti them by three points. Heissler Guillent went for only five points in the loss to Poland, but then had 28 in the win over Ivory Coast in their last game.
Take the host in this one, as they will dominate the paint winning and covering the spread.
Argentina (-7.5) vs Russia 164.5
Both of these teams have already advanced out of their group phase. Both teams are balanced, but Argentina has a lot more star power. After two games no player on the Russian squad is averaging more than 13.5 ppg while Luis Scola, who is now the 2nd highest scoring player in the history of the World Cup, has averaged 19 ppg and Nicolás Laprovittola has averaged 14 ppg.
Argentina will come out firing in this game and thwart the Russians in their quest to win the group. The South American country will win this game and cover the spread taking the group in the process.
