THE festive fixtures have already delivered some absolute treats.
Arsenal’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Liverpool was an early Christmas present for all English Premier League fans.
There were goals aplenty on Boxing Day as the Reds and Tottenham smacked five past Swansea and Stoke respectively.
Burnley continued their impressive campaign with a 2-2 draw against Manchester United, while premiers-elect Man City extended their winning run to 18 with a narrow victory over Newcastle.
Will we see more fireworks in the last round of games before the New Year?
Premier League accumulator tips
- Burnley to beat Huddersfield – +225
- Liverpool to beat Leicester – -333.33
- Watford to beat Swansea – -142.86
- Man City to beat Crystal Palace – -153.85
EPL accumulator odds = +798 at William Hill
Huddersfield Town vs. Burnley
Saturday, December 30 – 3pm GMT – John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield
Huddersfield – +140
Draw – +200
Burnley – +225
Back-to-back draws with Southampton and Stoke mean Huddersfield have lost only one of their last five games. That puts them within two points of the top 10, but a couple of defeats could see them slide right back into the relegation picture. Tom Ince broke his goal drought against the Potters, while Aaron Mooy continues to impress in the middle of the park.
Burnley are winless in three, but that trot includes tough tests against Tottenham (0-3) and Man United (2-2). The Clarets are the best team outside the top six, but how will Sean Dyche’s unassuming squad stand up over the gruelling holiday schedule? Set pieces will be important, as will the goalmouth threat of Ashley Barnes and the wholehearted playmaking of Johann Berg Gudmundsson.
This is our value bet of the round. Burnley’s work away from home is a vast improvement on last season, and they look a good bet to pinch the points in West Yorkshire.
Liverpool vs. Leicester City
Saturday, December 30 – 3pm GMT – Anfield, Merseyside
Liverpool – -333.33
Draw – +450
Leicester – +800
The big news out of Anfield this week is the record signing of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton. His arrival in January should add some steel to a defensive unit that leaked three goals in under five minutes against Arsenal. While Mo Salah is earning all the plaudits this term, it is well worth noting that both Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho have scored in each of Liverpool’s past three games.
Brilliant one week and out of sorts the next, the Foxes have managed only one point in their last three outings. That came against Man United. Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez are in good touch, but punters looking for value in the goalscorer betting might consider Harry Maguire – always a threat at set pieces.
Although Leicester have troubled Liverpool in recent times, they have not won at Anfield since 2001. Get on Jurgen Klopp’s men to back up their rout of Swansea with another big win.
Watford vs. Swansea City
Saturday, December 30 – 3pm GMT – Vicarage Road, Watford
Watford – -142.86
Draw – +260
Swansea – +400
Watford went six games without a win before stopping the rot with a 2-1 result over Leicester last time out. Although they have slipped back to 10th on the table, a couple of good results over New Year’s could put them back on the fringes of the six. Brazilian striker Richarlison is the standout for the Hornets in the first goalscorer betting.
Swansea are dead last and without a full-time manager. They fell to pieces after a battling first half against Liverpool, conceding four goals after the break. The back line is bad, the attack is even worse, and everything is awful at Liberty Stadium.
Some might say -142.86 is too short for a team that has just snapped a lengthy losing streak, but there is no debate here. Watford all the way.
Crystal Palace vs. Manchester City
Sunday, December 31 – 12pm GMT – Selhurst Park, Croydon
Palace – +1000
Draw – +500
City – -400
Crystal Palace are a different team under Roy Hodgson. Although the draw against Swansea was a missed opportunity, they are now unbeaten in eight outings. That is some turnaround for a team that started the season with seven consecutive defeats.
When will Man City’s well run dry? A late Raheem Sterling goal was enough to edge out Newcastle and extend the league leaders’ winning streak to 18. Sterling is now City’s top scorer in the EPL this season with 13 goals, ahead of Sergio Aguero (12), Gabriel Jesus (eight), Kevin de Bruyne and Leroy Sane (both six).
The only reason to bet against Pep Guardiola’s men is the old notion that a loss is overdue. As short as City’s match odds are, they are overs for a team that many have dubbed the best in Europe.
