DAY 10 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will feature some huge events, including a few genuine medal chances for Australia and New Zealand.
We’ve scoured through the markets at Sportsbet.com.au to come up with a tasty Olympic multi bet for the best of the action on Friday and beyond.
Friday, August 12 Olympics multi selections:
Swimming – Katie Ledecky (USA) to win Women’s 800m Freestyle – $1.01
Swimming – Michael Phelps (USA) to win Men’s 100m Butterfly – $1.91
Cycling – New Zealand to win Men’s Team Sprint – $1.50
Cycling – Australia to win Men’s Team Pursuit – $2.75
Women’s 800m Freestyle – 2:20am AEST
Katie Ledecky (USA) to win – $1.01
They say every good multi bet needs a sure thing, and they don’t come much surer than this. At only 19 years of age, Katie Ledecky holds world records for the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events. She has already won the 200 and 400 in Rio, and we don’t think anyone will catch the London 2012 gold medallist here. Her closest rivals are Australia’s Jessica Ashwood and New Zealand’s Lynne Boyle, each paying $15 to win.
Men’s 100m Butterfly – 3:22am AEST
Michael Phelps (USA) to win Men’s 100m Butterfly – $1.91
What else is there to say about the greatest athlete in Olympic history? The Baltimore Bullet secured his 20th Olympic gold medal with a superb swim in the 200m fly, only to take his tally to 21 soon after with another triumph in the 4x200m relay. He left Chad Le Clos and Laszlo Cseh for dead in Wednesday’s final, so they will need to find something extra special to keep up in the 100.
Men’s Team Sprint – 5am AEST
New Zealand to win – $1.50
Ethan Mitchell, Sam Webster and Eddie Dawkins powered New Zealand to victory over a fast-starting Netherlands trio at the world championships earlier this year, and all signs point to another win in Rio. If the Kiwi speedsters can maintain their energy levels during a gruelling two-hour session of qualifiers and heats, they should collect what would be NZ’s second ever Olympic gold in track cycling.
Men’s Team Pursuit – 5am AEST
Australia to win – $2.75
Great Britain, led by the peerless Bradley Wiggins, are the $1.62 favourites on the back of some scintillating performances on the training track in recent weeks, but it is Australia who have the bragging rights after their stunning victory in the world championships in London back in March. Michael Hepburn, Callum Scotson and Sam Welsford were all part of that successful quartet, and we’re backing them to do it again in Brazil.
