The French Open quarter-finals continue this Wednesday on Day 11 as the tournament nears a conclusion, and the standard of tennis will continue to rise as we enter the last few days of Roland Garros 2021.
Rafael Nadal is the men’s French Open betting favourite at -175.44 with online bookies, and he will take on Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman in the last eight. In the other men’s quarter-final on Wednesday, Novak Djokovic will be looking to set up a blockbuster semi-final bout with Nadal when he takes on Italy’s Matteo Berrettini.
The women’s singles action on Day 11 is much more open than the men’s draw. Reigning champion and 2021 French Open favourite Iga Swiatek (-138.89) will look to extend her unbeaten streak at Roland Garros when she takes on Greece’s Maria Sakkari, while the closest matchup of the day looks to come out of the Coco Gauff vs Barbora Krejcikova clash with both women competing in their first Grand Slam quarter-final.
(#1) Novak Djokovic (-500) vs (#9) Matteo Berrettini (+325)
The top seed Novak Djokovic was in the fight of his life on Monday when two sets down to world no.76 Lorenzo Musetti. However, the Serbian star dropped only one game in the next three sets before Musetti was forced to retire at 0-4 in the fifth. He cannot afford to give no.9 seed Matteo Berrettini a two-set head start on Wednesday, and the Italian should nice and fresh after his walkover in the fourth round following Roger Federer’s withdrawal from the tournament. Despite Djokovic being pushed to five sets last time out, he should have too many answers for whatever questions Berrettini will pose, although we do expect the Italian to take a set off the Djoker.
Novak Djokovic to win 3-1
(#3) Rafael Nadal (-1666.67) vs (#10) Diego Schwartzman (+650)
Rafael Nadal is a hot favourite to take out the French Open for the 14th time, and only Diego Schwartzman stands between the Spaniard and a potential semi-final clash with Novak Djokovic. Schwartzman was workmanlike when defeating Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff, but Nadal on clay is the hardest task in world tennis. Rafa is yet to drop a set in this year’s tournament, and it is hard to see Schwartzman halting that streak on this occasion.
Rafael Nadal to win 3-0
(#24) Coco Gauff (-105.26) vs Barbora Krejcikova (-117.65)
The lone American left in the draw, Coco Gauff, is set to clash with Barbora Krejcikova in the tightest contest on Day 11 of the 2021 French Open. The no.24 seed was a resounding victor in the fourth round with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ons Jabeur, whilst Krejcikova was just as impressive when disposing of Sloane Stephens. Both women won their lead-in tournaments, but we expect Gauff to book a spot in a Grand Slam semi-final for the first time with a tough three-set victory over her Czech opponent.
Coco Gauff to win 2-1
(#17) Maria Sakkari (+245) vs (#8) Iga Swiatek (-357.14)
Greece’s Maria Sakkari disposed of no.4 seed Sofia Kenin in the fourth round, but she now faces an even sterner test against reigning champion Iga Swiatek. The no.8 seed from Poland has not dropped a set in her last 11 matches at Roland Garros, dating back to the first round of the 2020 tournament. Although Sakkari only dropped four games to Kenin – an Australian Open champion and French Open finalist – Swiatek should wrap this up in straight sets.
Iga Swiatek to win 2-0
French Open multi bet: 4 legs @ $7.78
We expect most of these quarter-final matchups to go the way the French Open betting markets are trending. Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic should win to tee up what will be their 58th match against one another. Iga Swiatek should make it through to her second-straight French Open semi-final, whilst Coco Gauff looks set for her first taste of the final four at a Grand Slam.
Djokovic / Nadal 3-0 / Gauff / Swiatek 2-0
