French Open Day 7 best bets & top value picks – May 28, 2022

Roland Garros tennis odds

Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Mikael Ymer this Saturday as he looks to make another deep run in the French Open after advancing to the final last year. Here’s our pick in that third round matchup as well as our plays for the Hugo Gaston vs. Holger Rune and Alize Cornet vs. Qinwen Zheng matches in this Saturday’s French Open best bets for Day 7.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (-1800) vs Mikael Ymer (+1000)

Stefanos Tsitsipas has had a far rockier path to the third round than most would have predicted, needing to overcome a two-set deficit to defeat Lorenzo Musetti in five sets on Tuesday and being pushed to multiple tiebreakers in a four-set win over Zdenek Kolar on Thursday. Mikael Ymer meanwhile came into the French Open having been ousted in his first match in each of his last six tournament appearances, but in this tournament he’s picked up two wins over James Duckworth and Dan Evans.

These two strange trends should both end on Saturday. Tsitsipas is a perfect 3-0 in three career head-to-head matches against Ymer, and all three of those went Tsitsipas’s way in straight sets. Facing an opponent he has dominated and likely hungry for a quick match given the two marathons he’d had to endure thus far, look for Tsitsipas to win this one in straight sets and bet it accordingly.

Hugo Gaston (+269) vs Holger Rune (-324)

Holger Rune appears to be well on his way to a very impressive career. At just 19 years old, Rune advanced to the semi-final of the Lyon Open last week and is off to a brilliant start in the French Open with wins in straight sets over Denis Shapovalov and Henri Laaksonen. The stage does not look too big for Rune, and he is deservedly a clear favorite in this Saturday’s third round matchup against Hugo Gaston.

With that said, Gaston is on an awesome run in this tournament. He pulled off an upset over Alex de Minaur in the first round and followed that up with a dominant performance in a straight-sets win over Pedro Chacin. Gaston’s drop shots are dialled in and the home crowd in France is firmly behind him. Going off at just -175 to avoid a sweep as a 2.5-set underdog, we’re willing to take a shot that Gaston at least goes down swinging with a set or maybe two against Rune.

Alize Cornet (+135) vs Qinwen Zheng (-155)

Another impressive 19-year-old is making waves on the women’s side at the French Open as Qinwin Zheng has played her way into the third round. Zheng bounced back from a 6-2 loss in the first set on Thursday to upset former French Open champion Simona Halep 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the second round. She’s favored to keep things rolling this weekend against Alize Cornet.

Cornet is also coming into this match off of an impressive second round upset over Jalena Ostapenko. This is a tough matchup to predict. Zheng may be the more talented player here, but she’ll have to deal with an opponent in Cornet that will have the edge in experience and also the home crowd behind her as a France native. It may also be difficult for Zheng to avoid a letdown match after her big upset over Halep. Maybe Zheng passes all of these tests and gets the job done, but there’s enough value on Alize Cornet here to roll with the underdog.

Alize Cornet to win
