United Kingdom NGO GambleAware has made public the complete annual reports of donations it received between 2021-2022, within this time frame it received 34.7m pounds ( $42.9m) donations from the gaming industry.
The large amount came from UK four most popular brands, which include Entain, William Hill, Flutter Entertainment and Bet365 all contributing 89% of all donations. Following the renewed commitment by GambleAware to set the donations at 1% of gross gaming yield(GGY) by 2024, still a very little amount overall.
2021-2022 donations is 15 million pounds more than what they got last year, GambleAware notes that other operators are inconsistent with the donations.
The charity organization will continue to call for the compulsory levy on the GGY, they believe that the 1% levy will drive a more consistent and sustainable action plan for raising funds for the prevention of gambling-related issues.
GambleAware further explained that the compulsory levy will help with long-term planning for delivery gambling prevention services.
The CEO of GambleAware, Zoë Osmond, commented: “These donations fund essential services for the prevention of gambling harms, helping build a coalition of expertise to tackle and prevent gambling harms across Great Britain.
“We welcome the commitment from the ‘Big Four’ operators to increase their donations over the coming years; however, there remains an inconsistent approach to funding across the wider gambling industry, which leads to uncertainty and instability.
“That’s why we are calling on the Government to introduce a mandatory levy on the gambling industry as a condition of licence. The gambling industry should take the necessary and responsible steps by matching its success to the scale of gambling harms risk, especially at a time of rising financial and economic hardship across the country.
“This would commit much more funding to treatment, prevention, and research per year – and could be delivered in a matter of months.”
