Two-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz has made a shock early exit from the 2025 Miami Open, falling in straight sets to Belgium’s David Goffin in one of the tournament’s biggest upsets so far.

Ranked outside the world’s top 100 and only entering the draw as a lucky loser, Goffin delivered a vintage performance to oust the world No.2 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in just under 90 minutes.

It marks one of Goffin’s most significant wins in recent years as he capitalised on a shaky performance from the Spaniard, who never quite settled into the contest.

Alcaraz, who recently returned to world No.2 after reaching the semi-finals at Indian Wells, came into Miami as one of the hot favourites with top tennis betting sites.

However, he struggled to find rhythm on serve and was broken five times throughout the match, while Goffin held his nerve to close out each set with authority.

“I played with a lot of confidence today. I had nothing to lose, and I took my chances,” Goffin said post-match.

“Carlos is an incredible player, but I was able to stay aggressive and consistent.”

The result is a major blow to Alcaraz’s momentum ahead of the clay season, with the French Open looming on the calendar.

Meanwhile, Goffin progresses to the third round in Miami, looking to build on his unexpected run.

Both are heavy favourites at Nags.bet to advance to the round of 16.
