Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings Betting Preview

The Packers head to Minnesota to take on the Vikings in a NFC North showdown with big NFL betting playoff implications.

Green Bay is in first place in the NFC North with a one game lead on the Vikings, who they beat at home 21-16 in the second game of the season. The Packers are in the playoffs with the second NFC seed while Minnesota has the sixth seed. Minnesota will still make the playoffs unless they lose their next two games, and the L.A. Rams win their next two games.

The Packers have won their last two games in a row, but their offense did not look impressive in either game where they did not score more than 21 points. In their last game they beat the Chicago Bears 21-13 where they were outgained 415 yards to 292 yards but forced three turnovers and did not commit any.

The Vikings have won two in a row and four of their last five games. In their last two games they have outscored their opponents 59-17 and in their last game laid a 39-10 beat-down on the L.A. Chargers.

The Vikings have covered the spread in four of their last five home games against the Packers.

In the win over the Bears Aaron Rodgers was 16/33 for 203 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions and Davante Adams had 103 receiving yards and a score. Rodgers was voted into the Pro Bowl despite only ranking 17th in the league in QBR. While he has not been picked off in his last eight games he has not passed for over 243 yards in his last six games.

Rodgers had not had to do it all with a good run game this season and while Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams combined for 77 rushing yards in the win over the Bears, neither averaged over 3.9 yards per carry.

Minnesota ranks a solid eighth in the league in run defense and they only rank 20th in pass defense.

Since starting the season 2-2 the Vikings have gone 8-2 with their only losses coming on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks. All four of their losses have been on the road and the Vikings are 6-0 at home.

In the blowout win over the Chargers in their last game the Vikings had one fewer yard (345-344) but they forced a whopping seven turnovers and only committed one. Their defense was killer in the second half where they outscored L.A. 20-0.

Kirk Cousins passed for 207 yards with a touchdown and an interception and Stefon Diggs led the team with 76 receiving yards. Cousins may have been a Pro Bowl snub with a TD to INT ratio of 25:5 and is among the league leaders in completion percentage. However, he has a history of failing to show up in the NFL Monday night sports betting games, and in the earlier season loss to the Packers he was only 14/32 for 230 yards and had two interceptions and one touchdown.

In the win over the Chargers the Vikings rushed for 137 yards with Mike Boone leading the way with 56 yards. Dalvin Cook is their lead rusher and ranks seventh in the league in rushing yards. He is dealing with a shoulder injury and in three of his last four games he has failed to rush for over 29 yards.

Green Bay’s defense has not been a great one in the 2nd half of the season and, overall, they rank 22nd in the league against the pass and 24th against the run.

Green Bay Packers v Minnesota Vikings Picks & Predictions

Cousins’ struggles in primetime games are well documented but he will have a good showing this Monday night. However, so will Aaron Rodgers, who has not looked like the Rodgers we are used to seeing in the last few games. This game will be close throughout and while Green Bay may not get the win BettingPlanet.com like them cover the spread.
