Kylian Mbappe snubs Real Madrid to stay with Paris Saint-Germain

The transfer saga of Kylian Mbappe appears to be finally over, for now. After years of considering a move to Real Madrid, Mbappe has finally re-signed with PSG for three more years. With his deal expiring in a month, this decision was a long time coming.

The money in the contract has not yet been finalized but it is rumored to be around $5 million a month. He also will receive a signing bonus somewhere in the region of $125 million. This deal is worth more than what Real was willing to offer but PSG also gave Mbappe control over managerial decisions. That control may be what got the star 23 year old to stay aboard.

Following the announcement of his new deal, Real Madrid’s league, La Liga, announced they would be investigating the new contract and pursue legal action if PSG broke financial rules. It remains to be seen if anything will come of that but it does appear like Real is a little salty. Mbappe is one of the brightest stars in world soccer and would bring in a lot of money for the league. However, he is staying in France where he will continue to dominate.

And they are set up to dominate. Mbappe will have at least one more year with Lionel Messi and Neymar in the PSG attack. When they are on, they are borderline unstoppable and that has shown in PSG’s dominance over Ligue 1, the best league in France. Mbappe was the leading scoring in Ligue 1 this past season with 28 goals in 35 games.

PSG have won the Ligue 1 each year of Mbappe’s young career with the team but they have struggled in the Champions League. Each year, PSG has the highest of expectations but only have been able to make it to the Semi Finals once and have yet to put a full tournament together. With Mbappe coming back, they will once again be one of the favorites to win it all. Whether they can break through, however, remains to be seen.

Mbappe already has a World Cup title under his belt and will be expected to compete with France again this Winter in Qatar. He possesses electrifying pace and his ability to finish is up there with the best strikers of the world. Simply put, no amount of money was too much for Mbappe and PSG will be delighted he is staying, even if it has cost them a ton of money.

This contract will only last for three years and Mbappe will be expected to be a hot commodity on the transfer market when he is 26 in three years. Real was his favorite club as a child and Mbappe has always dreamt of playing for them, but this PSG deal was too much to pass up. It will be interesting if Mbappe is still considering Real after the stink they have put up over the past couple days.

Regardless, this contract at least temporarily ends the saga and Mbappe will focus on soccer. He’s still improving as a player, as he is only 23 years old. His potential is unbecoming and he could go down as one of the greats. Now, he has a paycheck to match his performance but the expectations have never been this high. Betting against Mbappe, however, has not worked in the past. He is an electrifying player and guys like him are what make soccer so fun. Now, the drama is over and it’s time for him to continue dominating on the pitch, as it should be.
