The Los Angeles Lakers head to Brooklyn to face the Nets in the first matchup between these teams in the 2019-20 NBA season.

LA started their ongoing five-game road trip with a good win over the Houston Rockets, but in their next game they were throttled 139-107 at the hands of the Boston Celtics. Anthony Davis, who missed five games with a back injury, only went for nine points and four rebounds in 23 minutes on his return to action at TD Garden.

The Lakers have played well on both ends of the floor this season and need to forget about the blowout loss to the Celtics where they allowed them to shoot 55.9% from the floor. LeBron James only went for 13 points at 5/12 shooting in Boston, so he and the Lakers will want to bounce back against a Nets team that beat them twice last season.

While there is hope for the Nets with their addition of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, that hope is for next season. Durant is still recovering from an Achilles injury and could miss the rest of the season, while Irving has only played in 15 games since his switch from the Celtics.

This season the Nets are 18-24 overall, 18-24 against the spread and 11-11 at home. They sit eighth in the NBA Eastern Conference, three wins behind the Orlando Magic.

Brooklyn come into this game after losing four in a row and 11 of 13 games. They are giving up an average of 111.6 points per game on the season and have given up 117 points in each of their last three games.

Irving (26.5 ppg) leads the Nets in scoring but missed the last game to rest his hamstring. He is listed as a day-to-day prospect, so is no certainty to suit up against the Lakers.

The Nets lost 117-111 at home to the Philadelphia 76ers in their last game. They shot a better field goal percentage (48.1% to 44.7%) and shot the three-pointer better but were outscored on fast-break points 23-6 and committed 22 turnovers.

Seven of the 10 Brooklyn players that saw action in the loss to Philly scored at least 12 points, led by Spencer Dinwiddie with 22 points despite going 6/17 from the floor. Dinwiddie is the second-leading scorer for the Nets at 21.8 points per game, but he has been up and down of late. He has failed to shoot over 42% from the field in four of his last five games.
