La Liga 2021/22 Matchweek 28 betting tips & top value picks

La Liga Matchweek 28

The top three teams in La Liga all face teams on the bottom half of the table this week as Real Madrid visits Mallorca, Sevilla heads to Rayo Vallecano and Barcelona hosts Osasuna. We’ll look for the best value play in each of these matchups in our La Liga Matchweek 28 best bets.

Rayo Vallecano vs Sevilla

Sevilla (15-10-2) is undefeated over its last 13 matches but is still losing ground on Real Madrid atop the Liga table due to its draws. The club played to a 0-0 draw on Friday against an Alaves team that currently sits in 19th place out of 20 in the Liga standings. Since going 5-1-0 over its previous six matches, Sevilla is 2-5-0 over its last seven with four straight road draws.

Rayo Vallecano (9-4-13) is winless in 2022 with a 0-1-7 record over its last eight matches. Vallecano has lost six straight games and has been outscored 14-2 over its last eight games. Surely this is the spot that Sevilla finally gets back in the win column? A play on the UNDER 2 goals is reasonable too given how poorly these two offenses have been performing, but getting better than even-money odds against a team playing as badly as Rayo Vallecano is, Sevilla is worth a shot here.

Barcelona vs Osasuna

Barcelona (13-9-4) picked up a third straight win and improved to 7-4-0 over its last 11 games with a 2-1 win over Elche on Sunday. The club’s offense has been playing consistently well in recent weeks with at least two goals scored in Barcelona’s last five matches. Osasuna (9-8-10) enters this matchup tied for the third-worst offense in La Liga with only 26 goals scored in 27 matches. Their 1-0 win over Villarreal on Saturday snapped a two-match losing streak in which Osasuna failed to score a single goal.

Given the current form of both of these clubs on offense, we’re willing to lay the 1.5 goals on Barcelona in this matchup. Barcelona has scored four goals in each of its last two home games against Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, two clubs with respectable defenses. Two or three goals in this one should be enough to get the job done against this slumping Osasuna offense.

Mallorca vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid (19-6-2) rolled to an easy 4-1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday and is now 5-2-0 over its last seven matches. Madrid has outscored its opponents 8-1 over its current three-match winning streak in La Liga games and is also coming into this match off of an impressive 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in UEFA Champions League play. Mallorca (6-8-13) meanwhile has lost four straight matches and is 2-0-8 over its last 10 matches after losing to Celta Vigo 4-3 on Sunday.

This is about as clear of a trap game as you’ll ever see for Real Madrid. Coming off of a big emotional win over Paris Saint-Germain and looking ahead on the schedule to an El Clasico matchup against Barcelona, it’s hard to imagine Madrid bringing its best effort here. Mallorca on the other hand would love nothing more than to upset a super-team at home. We aren’t brave enough to take Mallorca outright, but a play on the 1-goal spread looks quite reasonable.
