Real Sociedad vs Real Betis

Real Sociedad (15-9-7) defeated Elche 2-1 on the road on Monday to move to 3-1-1 over its last five matches. Real Betis (17-5-9) also picked up a 2-1 road win during Matchweek 31 with its victory over Cadiz. Betis has recorded the exact same result as Real Sociedad has in each of La Liga’s last five matchweeks, compiling an identical 3-1-1 over that stretch.

Something has to give when these two clubs meet on Friday. Or will their mirrored records continue with a draw? It’s possible, but we’re leaning towards Real Betis in this one. Betis is only two points ahead of Sociedad in the standings but has a significantly better goal differential at +19 to Real Sociedad’s +2 in 2021-22. After playing to draws in seven of its previous nine matches, Sevilla (16-12-3) has actually had decisive results in each of its last two games. Sevilla defeated Grenada 4-2 on Friday to bounce back from a 1-0 loss on the road to Barcelona the weekend before. Real Madrid also picked up a victory last weekend with a 2-0 win at home over Getafe. Madrid is 6-0-1 over its last seven matches.

The draw odds are too tempting to pass up on in this one. While it’s good to see Sevilla doing something other than drawing over the last two weeks, a road loss to red-hot Barcelona and a home win over lowly Grenada aren’t particularly surprising results. Sevilla figures to be too strong at home to lose this match but not quite good enough on offense to win it, making the draw worth a shot at +245 on the betting board.

Barcelona vs Cadiz

It’s a shame that Barcelona (17-9-4) hadn’t heated up sooner to give La Liga’s title race some suspense down the stretch. Barcelona is 11-4-0 over its last 15 games and 7-0-0 over its last seven games following its 3-2 road win over Levante. The club is a perfect 5-0-0 in its last five home games and has outscored its opponents 9-0 over the last three games in that run.

Cadiz (5-13-13) isn’t going to be the team to end Barcelona’s winning streak. The club has compiled a respectable 2-4-2 record over its last eight matches, but none of those matches have come against a team of Barcelona’s caliber. Cadiz’s weak offense isn’t likely to score a goal at Camp Nou; we feel pretty comfortable laying the points and taking Barcelona on the two-way line in this spot.
