Returning from the winter break, La Liga is back for 2024 with ten matches of top-quality Spanish football. Here is our free soccer betting preview and tips for Matchday 19 of the 2023/24 La Liga season.
Getafe vs Rayo Vallecano
Tuesday, January 2 – 5:00pm CET – Estadio Civitas Metropolitano
One of the form sides in the league, eighth-placed Getafe, have just one loss in their past 12 matches. Looking to secure an unlikely European spot, they welcome a Rayo side who have lost eight of their past ten matches. A key part of Getafe’s strong start to the season, Spanish striker Borja Mayoral sits second on the goal scoring charts with 12 and will be the centre of attention once again.
Borja Mayoral anytime goalscorer
Real Sociedad vs Deportivo Alaves
Tuesday, January 2 – 7:15pm CET – Reale Arena
In the midst of a stretch of three straight 0-0 draws, Real Sociedad risk dropping out of the top six if they continue with their offensive struggles. Facing the worst attack in La Liga, Real Sociedad should be confident of maintaining their solid defensive form, whilst securing their first win of the year.
Real Sociedad to win to nil
Valencia vs Villarreal
Tuesday, December 19 – 9:30pm CET – Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes
In the midst of a very disappointing season, Villareal will be looking to secure their second consecutive win after beating Celta Vigo 3-2 last match. In the traditional ‘Derbi de la Communitat’ they face local rivals Valencia. At the Mestalla, Valencia are undefeated in their last five meetings against Villareal, and as the more in-form side, they should be too good here.
Valencia to win
Granada vs Cadiz
Wednesday, January 3 – 5:00pm CET – Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes
With the worst attack in the league and just two points safe from the relegation zone, Cadiz will be looking to record their first win since the first of September. They face fellow relegation candidate Granada, whose struggles have come at the other end as the second-worst defence in La Liga. Five of the last six matches between the sides have resulted in a draw and we are expecting a similar result in a cagey affair.
Draw
Celta Vigo vs Real Betis
Wednesday, January 3 – 7:15pm CET – Abanca-Balaidos
Just three points out of the top six, Real Betis have enjoyed an excellent run of form. Undefeated in their last 13 matches, Betis have also secured key draws against sides above them in each of their last three weeks. They are one of the top defences in La Liga, and coming up against Celta Vigo, who have struggled in front of goal this season, they should be too strong here.
Real Betis to win
Real Madrid vs Mallorca
Wednesday, January 3 – 7:15pm CET – Estadio Santiago Bernabeu
On top of the table and in a title fight with Girona, Real Madrid will need to be wary of dropping points as they welcome the dangerous Mallorca. Despite their poor league position, Mallorca are undefeated in their last five matches. Star forward Vinicius Jr is expected to return for Real Madrid, so expect plenty of goals. With the odds skewed towards Real, look to pair it with the over for extra value.
Real Madrid / Over 2.5 Goals
Girona vs Atletico Madrid
Wednesday, January 3 – 9:30pm CET – Estadi Municipal de Montilivi
The best match of the week, Girona will be looking to improve on their draw last match as they welcome third-placed Atletico Madrid. Girona, the most dynamic attack in La Liga, have been exceptional this season. However, they face a major test against an Atletico side that is always strong defensively. Despite this, we are still expecting both sides to show their attacking qualities in what should be a thrilling matchup.
Both Team to Score
Osasuna vs Almeria
Thursday, January 4 – 5:00pm CET – Estadio El Sadar
Sat bottom of the table, Almeria put in an impressive performance last match as they went down 3-2 to Barcelona. Despite not gaining any points from the clash, it was a step in the right direction for the winless side. This week they head to Pamplona to face an Osasuna side that is unbeaten in their last three matches at home. Despite their improvements last weekend, Almeria’s search for their first win looks likely to continue.
Osasuna to win
Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao
Thursday, January 4 – 7:15pm CET – Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan
Sitting just three points clear of the relegation zone, Sevilla’s nightmare season won’t get much easier this week as they welcome fifth-placed Athletic Bilbao. Undefeated in their last eight, the Basque side will be confident of their hopes here once again despite the loss of star striker Iñaki Williams due to international commitments. Playing away from home, Athletic Bilbao show great value here for the win.
Athletic Bilbao to win
Las Palmas vs Barcelona
Thursday, January 4 – 9:30pm CET – Estadio de Gran Canaria
One of the surprises of the season so far, Las Palmas have worked their way into the top half of the table as a result of their excellent defence. This week they welcome Barcelona, who appear vulnerable after dropping points in three of their last four matches. Although favoured in this matchup, Barcelona may struggle in front of goals, so backing this match to be a low-scoring affair creates greater value.
