Liverpool vs Newcastle Premier League odds

The English Premier League returns this weekend with Liverpool looking to retain their place at the summit when they play host to Newcastle United in what should be a spicy Saturday afternoon encounter.

Having capitalised on Manchester City’s stutter against Tottenham Hotspur in EPL Matchweek 2, the Reds have maintained their place on top of the table by churning out four wins from four outings to be the only team with a perfect winning record.

Their most recent win came before the international break where Jurgen Klopp’s charges cruised past Burnley with three unanswered goals. Chris Wood opened the scoring moments after the half hour mark when he inadvertently diverted the ball past his own goalkeeper to hand Liverpool the lead, before Sadio Mane doubled the tally four minutes later with a low drive.

Roberto Firmino then rounded off the enthralling victory at Turf Moor when he fired from the edge of the area 10 minutes before the final whistle. It was another emphatic triumph for the Reds as they continue their quest for a maiden Premier League title.

Newcastle United, however, were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Watford at St James’ Park on the weekend that preceded the international break.

The Hornets began the day at the foot of the table, but they grabbed the lead in the second minute when Will Hughes guided the ball into the bottom-left corner from 10 yards after a kind deflection off midfielder Tom Cleverley. Newcastle defender Fabian Schar equalised for the hosts in the 41st minute and the scores remained untouched for the rest of the second half, as chances at either end were few and far between.

While less than ideal, the result hoisted Steve Bruce’s charges to 14th on the table on four points – eight behind leaders Liverpool.

Liverpool team news

Alisson Becker remains sidelined for Liverpool having injured his calf against Norwich City in the opening game of the season, with no specific return date set for the Brazilian goalkeeper.

Midfielder Naby Keita could be close to making a return following a groin injury sustained in the lead-up to the UEFA Super Cup last month, although the clash against the Magpies may come a bit too soon for the Guinea international.

Newcastle United team news

Steve Bruce also has his fair share of injury woes, with defenders Florian Lejeune and DeAndre Yedlin ruled out of the match.

Matt Ritchie, Andy Carroll, Allan Saint-Maximin and Dwight Gayle are also poised to miss the trip to the North West of England.

Mohamed Salah has played a part in five of Liverpool’s 12 goals thus far in the Premier League and is in strong contention to retain his Golden Boot at the end of the campaign.

Although Liverpool have a plethora of attacking might with the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, their Egyptian star remains the biggest threat in the final third.

Liverpool vs Newcastle betting predictions

Liverpool to win both halves – +105 at Bovada

Unbeaten and on an impressive winning spree, Liverpool should have no trouble knocking the Magpies off their perch.

Newcastle may have managed some surprise results, like their 4-1 drubbing of Norwich City and their 1-0 win over Spurs, but the Reds are a different class.
