Manchester United have continued their busy summer transfer window and have just announced they secured the services of Rasmus Højlund for £72m. Højlund is a 20-year-old Danish striker who flashed for Italian club Atalanta over the past campaign, and considering his age, he is expected to grow into an elite option.
Højlund spent one year at Atalanta and didn’t start too many games at the beginning of his tenure. What has Manchester United fans excited, though, is how he performed during the second half of the Serie A season. Højlund scored eight goals across 15 starts and showed that he is a capable option at a young age.
The Danish’s prospects for this upcoming season remain unclear. The Red Devils will definitely feature him but the extent of his involvement is not yet known. With Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho, United have a glut of attackers but many of those players are best out wide, while Højlund plays down the middle.
Regardless, Højlund is clearly in their plans for the future and he is the third player they have brought in for over £50m this summer. After a season where the Red Devils finished third in the English Premier League, they seem motivated to challenge Manchester City and Arsenal for the title.
Manchester United currently have +1000 odds to win the Premier League and are -140 to finish in a top-four spot. They also are competing in the Champions League where they are +1400 to win it all with the top online betting sites.
Fans’ first opportunity to see Højlund play in the Premier League will be Monday, August 14 when the Red Devils host Wolves in their season opener. It’s unclear whether Højlund will be starting in that fixture but the price tag suggests he will be heavily featured at some point this season.
