It’s a packed slate of games on this NBA Wednesday as 26 teams will square off tonight. Recently, the stars of the league have been showing out and last night, Kyrie Irving and Giannis Antetokoumpo stole the show. Who it will be tonight remains a mystery but with so many teams playing there is bound to be some excellent performances. There are a lot of interesting games but here are the best three picks of the bunch.
Chicago Bulls at Detroit Pistons
In one of the surprises of the NBA season, the Pistons might actually be good? After a horrendous start that had them staring at another first overall pick, they are 6-2 in their last eight games. Their record is still 18-47, so they still aren’t that good but to see a team like them completely shift their fortunes is still a shock to many NBA fans. Their revival has been headlined by Rookie of the Year candidate Cade Cunningham who looks like a future star of the league. At home, the Pistons are a good bet in this game. They have been playing good basketball as of late and it is smart to ride their hot hand.
The Bulls are on an opposite trajectory of the Pistons. After a strong start that some rise to number one in the East, they have lost their last five games and are now the four seed. They have dealt with injuries to their guards, but their fans will still be disappointed with their play. They got everyone’s hopes up and appear to be letting them down. While the Bulls are the better team, the Pistons have been better recently and getting them +5.5 at home is a steal.
Detroit Pistons +5.5
Phoenix Suns at Miami Heat
The big news heading into this game will be the return of Devin Booker. The Suns, already without Chris Paul, will be relieved to see Booker on the court as they have had relative struggles in recent games. Both of these teams are great. They both sit on top of their conference standings and will expect to make a deep playoff run. The Suns are dealing with injuries, which is why they are underdogs, but they have more depth than other teams.
The Heat will not make it easy for the Suns. They are 17-3 at home in their last 20 and they are playing great basketball. However, this line is disrespectful to the Suns. They have built a great team and just because Chris Paul is out, the sportsbooks aren’t giving the Suns much of a shot. While the Heat will most likely come away with the win in this game, it should be closer than the line suggests. These are two great teams and, if things break their way, could play each other in the NBA finals. Take the Suns +7 and watch the Devin Booker effect take place.
Phoenix Suns +7
Denver Nuggets at Sacramento Kings
The reason the Nuggets are the pick in this game comes down to one player, Nikola Jokic. He has been unstoppable this year and is most likely going to win his second consecutive MVP award. The Kings won’t be able to stop him and this line doesn’t reflect the damage Jokic brings. Most teams can’t slow Jokic down but the Kings are especially under equipped to deal with him. They have a good offensive big man in Domantas Sabonis, but he is a skinny guy who will be bullied by Jokic if he tries to guard him. The Nuggets are making a late run up the Western Conference standings and the Kings are their next victim.
Denver is also 6-0 against the spread in their last 6 away games and have proven they can do it at home or away. They are still waiting on Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. to recover from their injuries but have still been very good without them. Most of that is due to Jokic but they have built a pretty deep squad around him. Simply put, the Nuggets are just a better team than the Kings in every facet of the game and should be able to easily cover this number away from home.
Denver Nuggets -4.5
