NCAA Football betting news: Broncos top Mountain West odds
Boise State came up short in the conference game after winning the MW Mountain Division last season, yet bookmakers have them odds-on to take the crown this time around. Let’s take a look at the latest NCAAF betting lines for the 2019 Mountain West title.
Boise State MW odds
+105 at Bovada
Boise State have the best odds to win the MW, but they have lost many key pieces since last year. QB Brett Rypien, 1,400-yard rusher Alexander Mattison, and leading WRs Sean Modster and A.J. Richardson are all gone. There are a lot of young RBs in the fold, led by Andrew Van Buren and junior Robert Mahone, while Chase Cord, Jaylon Henderson, and Hank Bachmeier will vie for the starting QB job. The defense took a dip last season because of injuries but should be much better this season. The schedule favors the Broncos, who won’t have to face Fresno State or SDSU unless in the conference title game, with their biggest fixture likely to be Utah State late on the road.
Fresno State MW odds
+425 at Bovada
Fresno State won the Mountain West title last season and like Boise State, who they do not face in the regular season, they have a lot of new faces. Jorge Reyna is the new starting QB and RB Ronnie Rivers returns after a good season, which was highlighted by rushing for 212 yards in the Las Vegas Bowl win over Arizona State. The top two WRs from last season are gone and two All MW linemen are gone as well. The defense also loses the top two players in the secondary, but there is still a lot of talent on D.
San Diego State MW odds
+485 at Bovada
San Diego State imploded last season but have high hopes this time, especially with a great RB corps led by rising star Juwan Washington and with perhaps the best secondary in the conference. Ryan Agnew will be under center, but the offense revolves around the run game and especially Washington, who has some Heisman buzz. The defense should be a good one for the Aztecs, but the D-line is an issue after losing four of their top five tacklers. SDSU have a tough opening game against Utah State and have another big one late at home to Fresno State.
Utah State MW odds
+800 at Bovada
Utah State have some key players returning in QB Jordan Love (32 TD, 6 INT last season) and RB Gerold Bright (6.3 yards per carry last season), but the biggest is head coach Gary Anderson for his second stint with the Aggies. The WR corps has gone through a major overhaul, but the defense should be strong under the leadership of LB David Woodward, who was a Pro Football Focus All-American last season. Utah State play a tough conference schedule, facing SDSU and Fresno State on the road and hosting Boise State in their second-to-last game.
US Air Force MW odds
+1400 at Bovada
Air Force are looking to rebound after two losing seasons, but at least they return QB Donald Hammond III to run the triple-option. The Falcons have the run defense, but like last season their pass defense is a major concern. The team may be bowl-bound this year, but winning the Mountain West Conference might be a stretch.
Nevada MW odds
+1800 at Bovada
Nevada had eight wins last season and have some key returning players on offense, but the QB position is up in the air. They have a few guys who will battle it out, and getting the right man will be crucial for a team that has a good ground game and solid receivers. The D for the Wolfpack was a pretty good one last year, but several key players from that unit are gone. The second half of the schedule is killer for Nevada, who must face Utah State, SDSU, and Fresno State all on the road.
