NCAAF betting update: Mountaineers odds-on for Sun Belt repeat
Appalachian State won the Sun Belt last season and are big time favorites to repeat in 2019. Let’s check out the latest odds for the conference title from the top NCAA Football betting sites.
Appalachian State NCAAF odds
-142.86 at Bovada
Appalachian State won the Sun Belt and 11 games last season, and they are the team to beat in 2019. They have perhaps the best QB in the conference in Zac Thomas and return a couple of star juniors in WR Corey Sutton and RB Darrynton Evans, who rushed for 1,060 yards in the last nine games of the 2018 season. The Mountaineers also have seven of their top eight WRs back this year. The team loses some key players on defense, but many are back for a unit that was solid against the run and great against the pass. Appalachian’s bigger games are facing Georgia Southern at home and hitting the road in their season finale against Troy, who they edged out for the East Division crown last year.
Arkansas State NCAAF odds
+450 at Bovada
Arkansas State went 8-5 last season to finish second in the West Division and while they return most of their starters, they have a new QB in Logan Bonner. The Red Wolves have a good WR corps with Kirk Merritt and Omar Bayless coming back, while RB Marcel Murray returns after rushing for nearly 800 yards last season and averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Bonner passed for 165 yards with a TD and an INT last season, so there is a lot of pressure on him this year. The ASU defense was good against the pass but bad against the run last term, and that has to change for the team to compete for the conference title. Arkansas State do not face Appalachian State, but they do face Troy on the road early in the conference season.
Troy NCAAF odds
+600 at Bovada
Troy have a new head coach in Chip Lindsey, who inherits a solid team that nearly won the Sun Belt last season. Kaleb Barker comes back under center after missing half of last season with an injury and while the run game may be good, the WR corps loses the top three players from last season. The Trojans’ defense gave up less than 20 ppg over the last 12 games of the 2018 campaign, but it remains to be seen whether they can maintain those standards after LB Tron Folsom and CB Marcus Jones decided to transfer. Troy have a road-heavy second half, but their biggest game will likely be the last one hosting Appalachian State.

Georgia Southern (+1300) won 10 games last season and have QB Shai Werts back, but the WR corps and RB corps have many new faces. The defense was young but good last season and many starters are returning. However, the Southern Eagles play a killer schedule, facing Appalachian State, Troy, and Arkansas State all on the road.
UL Lafayette (+1400) won the Sun Belt East Division with a 7—7 record and are just the opposite of Georgia Southern. While they have many skilled players back on offense, they will have an unproven QB in either Levi Lewis or JUCO transfer Jai’ave Magalei. The Ragin Cajuns host Troy and Appalachian State, but they must face divisional rival Arkansas State on the road.
UL Monroe (+1800) won six games last season and have QB Caleb Evans back, but he had too many picks last season and there are a few holes on the defensive side of the ball. The schedule does not favor the Warhawks, who have away games at Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, and UL Lafayette.
