The New York Giants face their biggest test of the 2019 NFL season this week as they wander up to Massachusetts to take on the unbeaten New England Patriots.
The Giants had won two in a row before their last game, where they were at home and got beaten badly losing to the Minnesota Vikings 28-10. While at 2-3 they are still in the NFC East race with the Cowboys and Eagles both at 3-2.
The Patriots are one of only two undefeated teams left in the NFL and they have been solid on both sides of the ball. However, four of their wins came facing teams that only have a combined two wins. They are at 5-0, but still only lead the 4-1 Buffalo Bills by one game and New England beat the Bills 16-10 in the game previous to their last one where they beat the Washington Redskins 33-7.
The Giants were dominated in the loss to the Vikings being outgained 490 yards to 211 yards. They are banged up and missed starting RB Saquon Barkley and their top two linebackers.

Daniel Jones passed for 182 yards in the loss to the Vikings with a touchdown and an interception and took four sacks. He played great in his season debut but in his last two games has three interceptions and two touchdowns.
Without Barkley the Giants only rushed for 64 yards in the loss to the Giants and Jonathan Hilliman was the leading rusher with only 20 yards. Barkley is still listed as out with a high ankle sprain, but head coach Pat Shurmer stated that “there’s a possibility” he will play in this game. To add to the injury woes backup RB Wayne Gallman and WR Sterling Shepard will miss Thursday’s game due to concussions.
The shorthanded Giants will have their hands full facing a Patriots’ defense that ranks first in the league against the run and fifth against the pass.
The Patriots started slowly in their win over Washington last week but outscored them 21-0 in the 2nd half. Tom Brady passed for 348 yards with three touchdowns and an interception and Sony Michel had his best game of the season with 91 rushing yards averaging a more than solid 5.7 yards per carry.
The Patriots outgained the Skins 442 yards to 220 yards. Brady and company will face a New York team that is not only shorthanded on defense but only ranks 28th in the NFL defending the pass and 24th defending the run.
These teams have not faced each other since the 2015 season.
New York Giants +16.5 at -111.11 with Nags.bet
The Giants were beat up in their last game and they are shorthanded due to several key injuries. However, there is a decent chance Barkley will suit up in this game. The spread opened at Pats -10 and widened to -16.5 by Tuesday, so all the money is on New England. However, the Giants will step up in this road game and while they will not win, they will cover the spread.
