NFC South 2023 betting preview, future picks & best odds – NFL 2023

We are approaching the end of our 2023 NFL Division Preview and this penultimate article will cover the NFC South. Last year, it was definitively the worst division in the league and the 8-9 Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers ended up winning the division. Well, Brady is gone this year and the division projects to be even worse. That being said, we have found some value. Let’s get into it.

NFL 2023 SEASON PREVIEWS:

New Orleans Saints

+135 at Bovada

Last year, the Saints were able to finish 7-10 with a rag-tag group of starting quarterbacks. To assuage that problem, New Orleans went out and got veteran QB, Derek Carr. While Carr is unquestionably an improvement, he is still an average player and does not signify as much of a boost as their line suggests. We expect the Saints to have another mediocre season as they try to right the ship in the post Drew Brees era. Avoid them for now.

Atlanta Falcons

+215 at Bovada

The Atlanta Falcons, like the Saints, finished last year with a 7-10 record. That being said, unlike the Saints, the Falcons are a young, ascending team and there is a lot of reason for optimism this year. First-round pick Bijan Robinson will join a talented offense that already features Kyle Pitts and Drake London. While their quarterback, Desmond Ridder, is unproven, he will almost certainly be an improvement over the Marcus Mariota experiment last year and the Falcons are a strong bet at +215.

However, we will stay away from Atlanta’s win total. It is currently set at 8.5 wins and that is spot on. While we think they will win the division, it only took eight wins to win it last year and that could be the case in this coming season. Although we are high on the Falcons, it is a risk so it’s best to stay away from their win total at this point in time.

Carolina Panthers

+350 at Bovada

The Carolina Panthers, like both the Saints and the Falcons, finished last season with a 7-10 record. Unlike the Saints and Falcons, however, they are in the process of a rebuild. The Panthers should be a scrappy team and they have the first overall pick, Bryce Young at QB but he should struggle in his first season. While Young will eventually become a great QB, this year will be tough and the Panthers will have a hard time competing for the division. Stay away from Carolina.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

+750 at Bovada

The Buccaneers are going to be one of the worst teams in the league. While Tom Brady wasn’t elite last year, he was still a good quarterback and with him, they only mustered eight wins. Now, Tampa Bay will waltz into the 2023-2024 NFL season with some combination of Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask at quarterback. That’s not good. This is an aging roster with no real plan and they should be competing for the first overall pick next year. This team cannot be trusted.

Because of that, we will take their under of 6.5 wins at -142. While basically everyone is fading the Bucs, it makes sense– they should be awful. Although Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are good receivers, they do not have a quarterback who can get them the ball and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them trade one of those guys at the trade deadline. Fade the Bucs this year and take their under.
