NHL Thursday betting picks & value plays – April 14, 2022

Best bookmakers for NHL betting

There are 12 National Hockey League (NHL) games scheduled for April 14, starting at 7pm EDT. Here’s where you should place your bets on Thursday’s games.

Detroit Red Wings (+300) @ Carolina Hurricanes (-360)

Carolina has won three of five, and Detroit has lost three of five. Carolina is 27-7-4 at home, and Detroit is 10-21-3 on the road. Detroit has allowed more than four goals per game over their last 10, and the Hurricanes have scored almost four goals per game over the same stretch while allowing just 2.3 goals per game.

Carolina has the advantage all over the ice, especially on special teams. The Hurricanes kill 88.5 percent of penalties and score on power plays at a 5.3 percent higher clip than the Red Wings. Carolina’s goaltending is also exceptionally better than Detroit’s.

An upset in this one would be astounding. Take Carolina to win by two or more at -150 with Bovada.

Arizona Coyotes (+210) @ Vancouver Canucks (-260)

The Canucks have won four straight, and the Coyotes have lost four straight. The Canucks haven’t been great at home (16-14-6), but Arizona is just 12-21-4 on the road. The Coyotes are also averaging just 1.7 goals scored per game over their last 10 games. The Canucks are only allowing 2.3 goals per game over the same stretch, while scoring 3.4 times per game.

Don’t expect many goals to be scored in this one. Six total goals have been scored in both of the two games these teams previously played. The Canucks scored five of them each time. Bet that fewer than six goals are scored and also take Vancouver to win by two or more, with both markets paying around -105 with most betting sites.

A moneyline parlay including Vancouver and Carolina pays -143, and taking both teams to win by at least two goals results in parlay odds of +225.

New Jersey Devils (+280) @ Colorado Avalanche (-360)

Colorado has won six straight and are 28-4-3 at home. The Devils are 10-24-2 on the road this season. New Jersey has allowed roughly as many goals per game this season (3.66) as Colorado has scored (3.76). The Devils did win the first game these two teams played, 5-3, more than a month ago.

Those Avs are not these Avs, and that should scare just about every team in the NHL. Colorado’s last four wins were over Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Pittsburgh (twice), and the Avs didn’t get good goaltending in two of those four games.

Expect Colorado to get the win at home and push its winning streak to seven games. Take the Avalanche to win by at least two goals at -120. Parlaying Colorado with Vancouver and Carolina on the moneyline pays +117, while that trifecta against the spread pays +475.
