There are 11 National Hockey League (NHL) games scheduled for March 22, starting at 7pm EST. Here are the best bets on offer for Tuesday’s games, with top odds courtesy of Bovada.
Columbus Blue Jackets (+245) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (-310)
Pittsburgh hosts Columbus and is the biggest favorite in Tuesday’s NHL betting markets. The Penguins have won seven of their last 10 games despite averaging just three goals scored per game. They have only allowed 2.57 goals per game this season, so scoring thrice is nice more often than not.
Tristan Jarry has been fantastic in goal for Pittsburgh, logging a .918 save percentage this season and allowing just 2.28 goals per game on average. With Buffalo awaiting a visit from Pittsburgh on Wednesday, expect Jarry to start this one in goal, and expect the Penguins to get the win at home, where they’re 17-9-5. Consider betting that six or fewer total goals are scored at -120, and parlay Pittsburgh to win on the moneyline with…
Under 6 total goals
San Jose Sharks (+235) @ Calgary Flames (-295)
Calgary is getting nearly as much of the early money love as Pittsburgh because the Flames are too hot to handle at home (19-5-6). Also, the Sharks struggle scoring goals, averaging just 2.4 goals scored per game in their last 10, which is only marginally worse than their season average (2.6).
Scoring isn’t a problem for Calgary, averaging 3.44 goals per game this season. The Flames also stifle the scoring opportunities of their opponents, allowing just 2.4 goals per game on average. Expect Jacob Markstrom to remain a rock in net for Calgary (.928 save percentage), and for Johnny Gaudreau to add to his team-leading points total this season (80).
Parlaying Calgary with Pittsburgh only pays -130, so consider a moneyline trifecta featuring…
Calgary Flames to win
Ottawa Senators (+210) @ New York Islanders (-260)
The Islanders are seeking their fifth straight win at home, where they’re suddenly 15-12-4. Ottawa enters the day having lost four of its last five games, and while the Senators score about as much as New York, they allow half a goal more per game than the Islanders.
The Senators will be without their assists leader, Thomas Chabot, for the rest of the season, so Ottawa’s offense could become even more constipated. The 643 penalty minutes assessed to Ottawa this season certainly hasn’t helped and could have the Senators playing from behind with the Islanders scoring on nearly 20 percent of power plays.
Take New York on the moneyline and consider betting on the Islanders to win by two or more at +100. Parlaying the Islanders with Calgary and Pittsburgh pays +145, and you might not find a more rock-solid trifecta this season.
New York Islanders -1.5
New York Rangers (-160) @ New Jersey Devils (+140)
New Jersey has to play in Toronto on Wednesday, but regardless of who starts in goal for either team on Tuesday, the Rangers will have the advantage. Igor Shesterkin nearly shut out New Jersey earlier this month, stopping 32 of 33 shots on goal in a 3-1 win. Backup goalie Alexandar Georgiev had 24 saves on 27 shots in a shootout win over New Jersey back in November.
Expect Shesterkin to start and the Rangers to continue their road warrior ways. New York is 20-12-2 on the road and could pull within one point of Carolina in the Metropolitan Division if the Lightning can get a road win in regulation over the Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Betting on the Rangers to win by at least two is attractive at +150, and with the over/under at six, take the under with Shesterkin in net. If you’re feeling frisky, a four-team moneyline parlay on the Rangers, Islanders, Flames, and Penguins pays +298.
New York Rangers -1.5
