PGA Tour to allow gambling at golf tournaments in 2020

Golf betting news

The PGA Tour is looking to expand its audience and recently announced it would offer gambling at US golf tournaments from the start of 2020.

According to tour commissioner Jay Monahan, golf fans can expect to see PGA Tour betting products ready for launch next year.

Details of the gambling product have not been released yet, but Monahan said the PGA had struck an international partnership deal with an IMG Arena gaming company.

He also insisted the PGA had taken steps to combat potential match-fixing, betting corruption and other integrity issues.

“It’s all about engagement,” Monahan said in a statement.

“When done right, it gives fans the opportunity to engage with your sport over a longer period of time and have more interest in what’s happening across the entire player field.”

Another sport in the United States that has plans to allow gambling is NASCAR.

Scott Warfield, the Managing Director of Gaming at NASCAR, echoed Monahan’s sentiments regarding fan engagement in a recent interview with Gambling Insider.

Sports betting, over time, is going to increase NASCAR’s audience,” Warfield said.

“The way we’ve thought about it with Genius Sports in particular is we have three to five million people every single Sunday watching our product in the US, and many more globally.

“How do you turn that core fandom into ambassadors of the sports betting product? They are going to evangelize it to a neighbor, friend or relative.”
