ONLINE bookmaker Sportsbet says France are the punters’ overwhelming favourites to win the 2016 European Championship final.
Les Bleus were heavily backed from the start to win the title on home soil, quoted as low as $4 in the pre-tournament outright betting.
Having dispatched arch-rivals Germany in the semifinals, they will face Portugal in the decider at Stade de France on Sunday night (5am AEST Monday).
Didier Deschamps’ men are paying $1.45 to lift the trophy and $2.05 to seal the deal in regular time.
According to Sportsbet.com.au, less than 15 per cent of all money wagered on the Euro 2016 final has gone to the Portuguese.
“Punters are cocky that Portugal’s wait for a major title will continue and have thrown their support behind the French,” said Sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.
Nevertheless, market trends in the Euro 2016 final betting suggest most observers aren’t expecting a one-sided affair.
A 2-1 win to France at $9.50 is the hot tip in the correct score market, while Cristiano Ronaldo at $6.50 is the popular pick to bag the first goal.
However, the Real Madrid superstar has close competition from a crosstown club rival in Atletico Madrid’s French gun Antoine Griezmann ($5) – the leading scorer at the Euros with six goals.
