Real Madrid beat Liverpool in the signing of Aurelien Tchouameni

Real Madrid have announced the signing of breakout French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni for a fee of 80 million Euros. He will come over from French team A.S. Monaco and immediately be an impact player for last year’s Champions League winners.

Tchouameni has chosen to play in Real Madrid over other big clubs like Liverpool and PSG. Ironically, Real Madrid just beat Liverpool in the Champions League Final so this news has to sting that much more for the Scousers.

Tchouameni is a 22 year old midfielder and rose to prominence leading Monaco to a strong third place finish in the French Ligue One. He will join a Madrid midfield that is filled with stars of all ages. Real Madrid now have Tchouameni, Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga all under the age of 23 and will be great replacements for the midfield Real currently roll out.

Casemiro is almost 30 and his play has declined in recent seasons. Beyond him, Madrid also have an aging Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Modric is 36 and Kroos is 32. Real is getting in front of them leaving the club and when they do, Real will have suitable replacements on the team. It’s a smart piece of business as Madrid are trying to balance youth and experience. Obviously, it worked out wonderfully for them last year, culminating in the Champions League Final victory.

Along with Tchouameni, Real have signed Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea and he will immediately compete for a starting center back position. Madrid have a bunch of young attacking talent but have now built up a lot of young depth in the defensive positions. Despite missing out on signing Kylian Mbappe, Madrid have done a great job preparing for their next generation.

Interest in both Tchouameni and Rudiger was very high after both of the players have been key cogs in their recent international games. Tchouameni has already broken into France’s starting squad at the age of 22 and his talent was fully on display in the UEFA Nations League games.

Real Madrid are currently +1200 with the top betting sites to win next season’s Champions League and given the success the Spanish giants have had in the tournament, that’s pretty good value. Of course, we don’t recommend betting on these futures at this point but it is something to take note of. So much can change over this Summer Transfer Window that it doesn’t make sense to bet futures but if someone wants to jump on Real at this point, no one would fault them. Now, with Tchouameni and Rudiger, they should be back in the mix and their quest to repeat as Champions League winners is off to a great start.
