Rose ascends to world no.1 despite BMW playoff defeat

KEEGAN Bradley ended a six-year drought on the PGA Tour with his playoff win at the BMW Championship.

The 2011 PGA Championship winner tied with England’s Justin Rose at 20 under par when the rain-affected fourth round concluded on Monday.

A four on the first playoff hole was enough for Bradley to seal the win and book a spot at the Tour Championship.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Rose, who vaulted above Dustin Johnson into top spot on the official world golf rankings.

The result also sees him climb to second in the FedEx Cup standings, where Bryson DeChambeau heads into the final event with a lead of 1,398 points.

Spieth misses out on Tour Championship

There are some notable omissions from the final field for this year’s Tour Championship, but none more glaring than the man who won it in 2015.

A final round of 73 at Aronimink saw Jordan Spieth slide to a tie for 55th in the BMW Championship and out of the top 30 in the FedEx Cup rankings.

This latest setback adds to a worrying trend for the 25-year-old Texan.

Spieth has recorded only a single top 10 – a tie for ninth at the Open Championship – since his third-place effort at the Masters in April.

If he does not add to his 14 career titles between now and January, the three-time major winner will end the year winless for the first time since turning pro in 2012.

Finau earns Ryder Cup wildcard berth

Team USA has selected Tony Finau as its final wildcard pick for the 2018 Ryder Cup, which starts later this month in France.

The 28-year-old from Salt Lake City finished tied for eighth at the BMW – his third consecutive top 10 in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

That consistency sums up a season that has seen Finau claim a dozen top-10 results and miss only three cuts.

He joins Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Bryson DeChambeau as one of four captain’s picks made by Jim Furyk.

Also representing the United States are Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Bubba Watson.
